Ok so i bought this girl from ebay....she showed up this weekend...I thought it was in better shape...it's pretty rough...and i am going to have a lot of questions..I want to race it at the Vintage nationals this coming summer...

This is how she showed up in the box....took about 5 minutes to get it unwrapped




Everything was held with velcro...including the servo...I assume they just use servo tape as their was no mount

The chasis is pretty beat up

Also the shocks in the front...the shafts are rusted...with no oil in them from the way they move

It doesn't look too bad to my eyes! It's been used for sure but it doesn't look abused. What I would do is break it down into the main components such as shocks, wheels, chassis, gearbox, etc., and then disassemble, clean and inspect all the parts from there. All the parts that you highlight can still be sourced and replaced such as the shock collars, shock pistons and universal drive shaft pivots.

At least the rear lower shock mounts look relatively intact because they are one of the hardest parts to find new or used!

With the investment of a few evenings spent rebuilding, along with some new parts, you'll have it back up and running again in no time.

Yea that's the next step...I just finished building a hotshot my wife got me....I will probably start breaking it down today...Can you get screw kits for these? I found a site that sells the outdrives and shafts...i think i also need a battery hold down....now the question is what lipo can i get to fit in there and will it take a brushless without imploding

I'm not aware of any dedicated screw kits but you should be able to find original NOS Team Losi screw packs - the correct ones for the car. Consult the manual on-line if you don'y have an original to hand.

The battery cup could prove a bit tricky to find......you'll need to trawl eBay.

You'll definitely want to rebuild the gearbox to run a dual disk slipper setup otherwise you risk destroying the diff.

Cool Thanks...the class i am going to run in is a 17.5 class...so i think that would live without a slipper...Can't wait to get started on this thing

You would think but sometimes things dont go that way. It's cheap insurance.
Doesnt look too bad...it could be worst. But hey you got some work to do.

The most immediate action necessary though is the removal and separation of the team associated power plant. It has the same effect kryptonite has on superman. Immediately youll see the car have more glimmer and sheen. Try it. Keep that bumper ON.

Indeed, the TL part number that Chris mentions is the A-3027 Universal Bearing Cross.

Decent looking early-ish car there.

BUT it is a great start for a vintage 17.5 racer. With the diff built and set correctly, a loamy track (if I remember the track for the vintage nationals) would benefit from a slipper. Clean everything up, get fresh shock shafts and cartridges. Build them up with 56 pistons (pink) and 30 wgt oil all around to start. Rebuild the car right back to instructions and start working from there.
