This might sound like a silly qustion but here goes.

I've got some white plastic parts soaking in a tub of washing up liquid/water at the moment but didn't really know whether I should put the front stub axles in. Will I end up making the metal stub go rusty or should I just not worry about it and get the scrubbing brush out?

i've always cleaned metal parts with WD-40.

I think this is a more stupid question than even I first thought.

The front stub axles have hex's on them ( I should have looked a bit harder ). I suppose its OK to just take them out of the steering block if thats what its called. I'm more used to tamiya's and on those its all one piece. Can anybody confirm its just normally threaded ( not lh ) as I don't want to stip any threads.

do not try to twist the front axles out of the carriers, they are hex all the way through, pushed into a hex hole. If you are able to spin the axle inside the carrier you will ruin it. Just make sure there is no e-clip on the back side, and push it out.
There are 2 possible types of front axles with hexes, ofset and inline. have a look at the pictures at towerhobbies of each:

Thats spot on......I probably would have found that out the hard way. I think its time I did a search for some build instructions

for rusty parts, this stuff is the absolute best. it should remove the black oxidizing either, just use some cotton balls and let it sit for a few seconds
