Latest project, new built RC10GT 96 GTII

Here's my latest project, a new built 96 GTII sport truck I have been piecing together. Got the built but unused chassis in one auction, the cv in another, the pipe/header in another, and had to buy a whole truck and parts lot to get the 6134 body. Tires and wheels are very lightly used, from another truck. I have everything to complete it, just need the time.

Sorry for the crappy pic, my camera sucks and I got my nerves from my mom.

Hey now, don't go confusing the new people making them think this is the same truck as the much later RC10GT2

Looks clean, just not as big of a fan of the black parts as I am for the early white ones.

"96 GTII" is what it's called, per Associated literature. I call it what it is.

It wasn't ever advertised that way, as far as I know, but it's mentioned in supplement sheets, parts listings, and probably most notably on the #6134 body header card.

Hmmm? Not so sure about that! The GT2 was the flat blue chassis, I think they used that body on the GT2 RTR! Tub chassis was never a GT2! Any scans or pics of this tub truck showing the GT2 name?

I don't think the GT was ever called a GTII, only the body carried that name.

Well, first of all, a GT2 is GT2, and has nothing in common with any GT1.

As far as I know the flat chassis never had any special designation, other than being commonly referred to as a flat chassis truck. This is the same body that was used on the GT1 flat chassis rtr truck, but that is not where it came from, it came from the 96 GTII chassis update when they added the wide rear shock tower, and was the kit body from then until the longer flat chassis kits came out in 01-02(?) when they went with the proline f150. The rtr GT1 flat chassis was a tub-length chassis, so that is presumably why they used this body with that truck.

Every flat chassis GT I've owned has been longer than the tub GT. I agree with Justin though about the body being for the wide shock tower. I'm pretty sure they were used on late tub GT's. Particularly the model numbers that came with the OS CV engines.

I see what your saying. I'm getting all mixed up here. The GT2 used T4 suspension, what the heck was the Blue flat chassis GT called? I have one but no box of manual to reference, as I just purchased updated parts for my original white GT since day one. Your saying AE called that late black GT a GT2 as well? Interesting!

I think Associated called the late body a "GTII" not the truck. That was still a rc10gt, never changed the name till the GT2.

Yes, they have made things quite confusing

what the heck was the Blue flat chassis GT called?
Unofficially, second generation GT.

Everything except the motor mount is interchangeable between the black tub and blue flat chassis. The tub has a steeper nose kick-up, though.
Every flat chassis GT I've owned has been longer than the tub GT.
Nose-to-tail, they are identical. The blue flat chassis does, however, provide 1/4" longer wheelbase.

Nice build up of parts. I think it looks great, and love the body.

As much as I like RC10GT's I actually have a dislike towards this particular version. From the first time I saw the ad when the GT was released I dreamed of owning that truck in the picture. Many years later, '98-'99 I finally got my first GT, cracked the seal and saw all those black parts and the fat rounded body. I was so disappointed....... I still have that disappointed feeling when I see one of these trucks and think back to opening that kit.
