Not sure what I have...or what to do with it

I've had this for a few weeks now after winning it off eBay. Didn't do anything with it while I was busy converting my ReRe into a WOIN racer. Now that it is finished time to turn towards this buggy.

First off, I kind of hate it because it was one of those, let me throw out one final bid for a dollar more and bang! You end up winning the thing for more than you wanted to pay, lol. I'm not sure what version RC10 this started out as. I also don't see any chassis stamp. The stealth feels good and looks complete, even the felt is there. I don't know why the previous owner used screws in the hubs but guess I will find out when I strip it.

So is it worth my time making this nice or just keeping it in the state it is? Chassis is powder coated and I'm not sure if I should keep it as is or get it stripped, try to smooth out some scratches then re-coated.

On to the photos.....

I remember that one. Forgot to bid on it.....

First thing to NOT do (in my opinion) is strip those chassis parts.

i think what you have is a team car with a aftermarket ae chassis that has the normal upgrades for that era like the houge steering, a magic spur, and some black arms , which could be dyed or the improved arms, the whole with the screw in the hub might be from a rcca tech tip that said to drill a hole in the hub carrier and to clean your hub bearing just insert the straw and spray motor cleaner. the whole was normal plugged with a set screw.

What should I do with the chassis is my main quandry right now. Part of me says to clean it and keep it original but the ocd part of me says to strip it and re-powder coat it florescent green. I did pick up the matching truck nose plate a few days ago.

yeah, I would have the same problem as you. On one hand, it's a factory finish tub. Points for that. On the other, it's worn! What to do.

First and foremost, I say totally strip if down and clean it all up. Be careful of certain solvents around the powdercoating, it can be damaged. Worst I would do is dish soap, maybe some wd40 to help peel any grease, dirt or sticker residue.

then inspect the chassis very well. By that time, maybe you will have figured out a decision in your head which way you want to go.

tear it down, clean the car up and go run it.

I would love to find one. IMHO, with the bottom that scratched, I'd look for an under tray and paint it to match. Or lay vinyl on it. Would hide the scratches while still being able to see the green from the sides and top.

Why the screw in the rear hub carrier? Haven't seen that before. Nice find btw.

I missed reading about the hub screw initially.

If you want to go period correct, you're looking at an all white team car. You could dye the. tuff black.... I guess. The white and green goes nice together though.

So if it were mine, I would look for the stuffI needed to make it an all white team car, but in the same condition as the rest of the parts on the car. Pick up some used .71 team shocks with aluminum caps. Find some period used electronics.... stuff like that.

You don't always have to build stuff with new parts...... not everything has to be "restored". I have an old blue ano short arm car that isnt in much better shape than what you have in front of you. But its probably one of the top 3 favorites of my collection.

Just my 2 pennies...

What vintage are the powdercoated chassis from? I just got ahold of an all new green car with aluminum wheels.
