The one that put Traxxas on the map. "The Cat is capable"

I can't say this is one I've always dreamed of but looking back if they hadn't ever sold the Cat/Tomcat I don't think we would have seen the hawk, tmaxx, or XO1. They sold a ton of these, mainly RTR- so the kit version interested me. While not really an icon, it was a huge stepping stone for Traxxas. Their first car that wasn't recalled lol

I decided to cut the 27 year old shrink wrap to take a peek. Enjoy

The manual with notes stapled in to correct the steps

Interesting that they block off the 4 "aa" holder area used on its siblings

I sold the RTR version my brother and I started with a long time ago. It was a good car, and I wanted someone else to enjoy the car.

This was my 1st hobby grade rc. Best christmas ever! I loved building it with my dad, such a sense of accomplishment for a young kid.

I distinctly remember the "perfect balance for jumping" claim on the front of the box, first thing i read after i tore off the wrapping paper. That car went to hell and back!

can anyone say Grasshopper?

there were quite a few cars that had that Tamyia Grasshopper style rear tranny, weren't there?

Lots of companies used a live axle, there is nothing short of maybe wheels and tires that would directly fit a Tamiya. This is closer relative to the Nikko cars. The rear is a single pivot ball more like a Panda

Grasshopper clones were cars like the Minicraft Lazer, Mugen Manx, World Engines Rockbuster, and Academy Roadrunner

Well, now that it's open are you going to build it?
I have a Cat project that I've been trying to get off the ground for a few years but every time I take it out of the box I lose interest immediately. I think it's because it feels too much like I'm working on a Tyco Turbo Hopper.

As I'm starting on that trx1 of mine I can't help browsing other recent traxxas threads :) :)

This one looks great! I'd never seen a Cat box. Thanks for opening it for us :)
