OK, so I dont really know anything about the quality of older electronics and hopefully you guys can point me in the right direction. So this is what I have:

Servo:
-Futuba FP.S148 x3..........they arent that strong but im not racing so these should still work well.
Reciever:
-Futuba FP-R102JE x 2......I really dont like these for the range they do have but I'm still willing to use
ESC:
-Futuba MC 112B x2..........I read up on these and odds are I wont be able to run anything stronger than the red dot motor I have
Motors:
-Speedworks 350 (18x2)
-Reedy Modified red dot (17x2)
-Reedy Ultra Series Mr.T (11x3)

Id like to run the Mr.T motor but I dont have a clue what vintage ESC's can work with this.
I'm planning on running a 5000mah 7.2V NiMH battery with this too all though I dont think that makes any difference.

So my question to you guys is what ESC do you think should be safe to run in this setup. odds are I wont know a recommendation by name alone so part number or picture too please.

Dmat, I run AM too! I really don't like the 148 servos, they are slow and whimpy (.18s/49oz/in or there abouts IRRC) A modern $7 knock off will have way better specs.
Those esc's are pretty miserable IMHO, 60hz is the real problem, making the throttle choppy. Low Hz runs motors hot too (I think?) I'd reccomend a novak anything high frequency. The Novak website had a good timeline so you could compare e-bay offerings with it. It seems to be under construction right now though. A Cyclone, Tempest, GT7, or GTX are all top end race esc's from this century that should run your motors with no sweat.

I don't mean to knock your gear; last week I ran my gold pan with 148 servo, 112B esc and AM radio for fun. On the track is where the shortcomings become apparent for me. Still, toys are for playing!

P.S. I don't have any experience running more than 3600 mah, and even then I got a lot of heat in a 15 min. run on the track. Keep in mind as I do that the really hot race set ups only ran for 4-5 minute runs, so by all means monitor your heat and maybe gear differently for looong runs.

Pick up a Novak 410M5 from Ebay to run your hotter mod motors. I've been able to get them for less than $35 looking brand new.

i use to run the 148's but they are a little sloppy anymore .. so im running a traxxis ??? with futaba am radio and ether a novak 410 or novak t1 with a 19t mod and 5000ma lipo and the car is running strong

for the range of the radio check to see it the recevers ariel has been cut

also make sure the recever isnt mounted too close to the speed control

So I managed to find the tempest and cyclones on ebay as well as a few others.

The novak timeline site is gone but the web archives have screenshots of them

why do tekin and novak use the same orange?
why do so many esc not have reverse?
what is the tempest model# all I see is tempest pro?

I saw a 610-hrv that has reverse but It cant handle the Mr.T motor.
not having reverse is sort of a deal breaker at moment.

I dont plan to gear the car for speed. Just getting a stronger setup that can run a decent amount of time w/o getting too hot.

the reason there was no reverse in the older speed controls as they where ment for racing and it was not alowed on the track

i rember novak as orange and tekin as black ... the t1 from novak is a beast and will handel any mod motor and up to 10 cells i think .. but no reverse

for some reason, I wanted to double check the Mr.T motor I have.

on the rotor was a 16 in blue bold marker
a blue triangle below that with the letter T in black

now I'm wondering if this in fact a 16 turn motor

There is a spec sticker on the outside of the motor and this is what it says.

PWR-111.00
TQ-1.280
RPM-25451
EFF-52%
#5-13131
18-.190
22-.247

so can anyone confirm what I actually have?

Just a though, If i treated the numbers like a brushless, the 25k rpm over what is likely 7.2 V puts the motor a little over 3500KV rating which is about 11 turns. I'm trying to find out if the motor is or isnt 11 turns b/c i'd really prefer reverse on my car and if its actually 16, I can get an esc with reverse instead.
