Hello all,
I recently got a Novak 410HPc with a car off eBay.
I looked at the manual, and just wanted to verify that this wiring is correct:

I also have a few other questions:
The manual says a 45 volt 9 amp Schottky diode with 0.4 volt forward drop is required. The Novak part is discontinued, and on Mouser there are a ton of other specs and I'm a little lost trying to figure out what will work. Mounting style? Case design? Maximum reverse leakage current? Max surge current? I'm lost. I'm also planning to pick up a few 0.1 uF capacitors.
The Schottky diode on the motor looks okay, but I'm thinking it would be smart to replace it.
How reliable is this ESC? Is it worth putting in a car that will get relatively regular use, or should I put it on B/S/T for someone who wants it in a shelfer?
I'm pretty sure the motor it's attached to is fried. Do I risk damaging the ESC if I power it up to test with the motor attached?
Thanks!
Thanks!

as long as you get the 45v, and 9 amp and .4v voltage drop, the other specs are as important. I would get an axially leaded package. that is what the original part is so it can be soldered between the motor leads.

this one would be pretty much bulletproof:

Thanks! I'll order a few of those.
Any thoughts on whether this ESC would do well in a runner?

if it's not broken, it should work great. those are standard, good quality esc's.

Thanks everyone! One more thing: can I take the Schottky diode off the fried motor and use it, or should i not risk it being bad?
Could powering up the esc while it's connected to a fried motor harm it?

if you know the motor is fried, don't use it. If it's just dirty and neglected, take it apart and rebuild it if possible, but if it's fried and you try and use the esc, you will blow out the FETs.

Okay, thanks. I'll test the motor but I'm pretty sure it's toast. I just hope the previous motor didn't take out the ESC when he fried the motor.
Can I re-use the Schottky diode?
