What is it?

Hi. I'm new to RC and picked this up at a garage sale (along with 2 RC10 types). Googling around told me it's Tamiya. But is it a homemade chassis with Tamiya parts or is it a particular Tamiya model? Help! The previous owner is a retired machinist so home made parts won't be a surprise. And what about that roll cage?
Thanks. If you need different pics, let me know.

get ready for 20 messages from people trying to buy it...

It's a Sand Scorcher or similar buggy, but built with mostly aftermarket parts.

The roof has a JG Mfg sticker that appears to have been there forever. Nothing else has any kind of manufacturer's markings. I think the previous owner might have made the wheels himself.
I'd like to learn more about what aftermarket parts were like back then. I don't have any first hand knowledge about this stuff, but the chassis and front 'bumper' are .125 thick...aluminum I believe. Seems pretty chunky for a mass produced part.

I would say the chassis was home made. it looks like a "butterfly" chassis with a built in bumper. Wheels could be home made for sure.
Most of the other parts are CRP or RCH.

Here's my thread with some of my projects and a lot of info- http://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=32765

Perhaps your lap is the problem? Try letting them fall into your hands and see if your luck changes
