Budhatrain's rc10 classic

It's been a while! For the past year I have committed to pursue my Master's Degree and now I read a book a week and write a paper a week. Being a dad is number 1 for me so I have to guard my time and sometimes I feel pretty overwhelmed. This memorial day weekend has been great, and I was able to take some back-to-back days off.

On the back-burner I have had this rc10 classic waiting... been grabbing cool stuff here and there and finally it was time to put it together! I love a kit... good times. Took me a little longer than I expected but I thoroughly enjoyed the build.

I really appreciated Jconcepts stepping up to this iconic RC and busting out some pretty cool stuff. The upgraded steering setup was a must. I couldn't help but pick up the carbon fiber goodies. Then they had these cool tubes braces and wing tubes that are square... and round. Picked them up! Of course there is MIP, my favorite upgrade for any vehicle is CVD's.

The transmission is what took me the longest. There was some play with the outdrives and top shaft... I couldn't figure it out and then it got later and later. I was listening to 70's rock so I don't know.... but that just seemed to drag on. Finally I put the motor plate on with the felt around the outdrives and everything firmed up. I have even taken it apart three times to double check, I haven't forgotten anything. I try to remind myself this was a kit from back in the day... so it is what it is. I picked up some bearings from Fast Eddy and made sure everything was smooth with Moo-Slick from COWRC.COM. Once I got everything together on the chassis I was going to call it a night... but the wheels!!! Chris from REC did these sweet mama's up and I had to mount them.

I couldn't go to bed without making sure the workspace was cleaned up so I packed everything away and grabbed these pics.

Then today went out with the family... first thing when we got back I was thinking about this custom lid I had made up. So I jumped in to mount it. This lid was unlike any other lid. It's a pain... that's it. But I put it together and of course sticker it up!

So this is where it sits... still need to pick out some electronics. Have a couple more goodies ordered up- some puretech mounts and strap. I saw this cool vaterra servo mount that would go nice with the aluminum swag I have going on. Speaking of aluminum... I missed REC launch of the aluminum transmission case for this. So I called up a buddy of mine and tomorrow I am shipping him my transmission, I am hoping he can come up with something.

So I also picked up some RPM rear and front arms for this. But when I tried to mount the rear arms the hinge pins are too short. I just eyeballed the front arms at that time and I backed off. Does anyone know if the rpm arms are compatible with this kit?

Let me know what you think and any advice is always welcomed!

Haha sweet, I thought there was something off when I was screwing it together.

Thanks for the heads up!

Well, when I said "I had made up" I meant "I had paid another guy to paint for me." I wish I was that good, I bought a new airbrush but I would have to pay you to take my lids. Haha

Kris from Darksidedesigns.net awesome painter, descent prices and quick turn around. He paints for all the big guys too including box-art for Associated and Pro-line.

Check him out, he does all my custom work.

Yep, but you'll need these:

Nice, very tasteful on the upgrades, and the paint job is killer!
Is it going to be a runner?

Ahh, good to know. Thanks for the link.

Are there any problem with the front a-arms? Are the RPM ones wider or anything? Would I need another set of hinge pins for those?

Plus is there a turn buckle upgrade? The threaded rod is killing it for me...

I wouldn't be afraid to run it... But I would like to pick up an undertray. Plus I need somewhere to run. Leagues or clubs are scarce where I am at.

I race indoor replica monster truck racing in Michigan...

The RPM front arms are the wide variety. The will work with the existing pins, but you'll need longer steering and camber links. Lunsford makes titanium kits for both the Classic and World's kits. Their classic kits would work if you stay with the short front arms. If you go with the wider RPM front arms, you can use their World's kits, but you'll also need to move the camber link ball stud on the rear bulkhead to the World's position.

Thanks for the comments, and I value your wisdom and advice Thank you! Very cool and needed build. It felt like a hobby again

I have looked into the straps from pure tech, what length should I get for a 2s Lipo pack 4" or 6" strap?
