Black Tub Team Car Resto

i picked this up in a trade with 85edinger. it was used a little bit but it's still in pretty decent shape. as you can see in the pics, it definitely needed a cleaning and was missing some parts.
after the tear down, i cleaned all of the white parts and gave them a peroxide bath. unfortunately, the plastic is so dried out it probably did more harm than good. some of the parts actually look shattered. for instance, the trans brace. if you bent it a little bit, you can actually here it cracking.
i've been contemplating what to do with this car since.... salvage what i can and toss the rest or just put it back together replacing some parts here and there with ones i already have. after looking around to all of the unfinshed projects laying on my bench and hanging from the ceiling, i decided to just put it back together.

It's good to see you doing something with it! I'm sorry about the state of the plastic, I honestly had no idea.
Wouldn't boiling the plastic help?
I mean, you need to boil it anyway so the HO2 doesn't strip the chassis.

alright, so on with the assembly.
other than the 8-32 screws, all of the hardware (screws, washers, nuts) was replaced with new stuff since the majority of it was rusty. the ball studs and shock rod end balls were cleaned up with a wire wheel in my dremel.
i've had some parts left over from a 10t i used to have that became an "old is new" build. i used the trans brace to replace the shattered original, as well as the steering knuckles since someone clearanced the originals for different wheels.... i assume. i still have to peroxide them so i just installed the originals for now, and the stealth case topshaft cap needs to be whitened yet too. i also had a complete set of white ball cups from it that were in really nice. i swapped out the mip cvd's and installed a pair of factory uni's. a few tecna turnbuckles were missing, i had one of them, and al helped me out with the remaining ones (thanks again

).
since i don't have any used stock bellcranks that aren't cracked, and i didn't want to use a new original set (or re-release stuff), i decided to install an original a&l bellcrank. though, i may put a houge bellcrank if i decide to take it out of another car.
there's still some things to do, mainly the shocks right now. i need to pick up a rebuild kit first though, and i will probably need to get new shafts too. the original ones are surprising beat up for the minimal use the car looks to have had.
so anyway, here's where it's at as of now.

hey, you didn't know.
i honestly thought it was in much better shape, but it's tough to tell until you get it apart. the pics make the plastic look brighter than it actually, but it's not horrible. being as though it's just gonna ride the shelf, the condition of the parts isn't a really big deal. but had you used the car, you would have been breaking stuff left and right. i don't know where this thing was stored, but it's dried out. i'm actually surprised the tires are still somewhat pliable.

yes, it was used. but not much. the bottom of the tub is pretty nice. the nose plate and rear kickup have some road rash on them.

So those are Tecnacraft turnbuckles.
So you didn't boil the plastic? Won't the hydrogen peroxide strip the anodization?

yes, everything was boiled afterwards.
one day, if i'm sending other parts out to have black ano done, i may tear the car back down, fix the scratches and have it redone.

This thing has sat around long enough without shocks, so I figured I'd finally rebuild them. Anyone want to guess why only one shock had oil in it?
Gotta make sure they click.

Ahh yes, the click. Once you've heard it, you'll know a failed "click" from a real "CLICK" too!

That turned out really nice! I like the pad you made for working on these pans. That is one great idea!

Now I need to go find the wife's yoga mat!

I didn't make that red pad. I've had that since the early/mid 90's, and I think it was made by TRC. Mainly for working on pan cars.

Shocks rebuilt and installed. Also put the stock tires on until I can come up with something more "competition grade" and period correct. Gotta go through my electronics yet too and see what I can come up with.
