Ok guys...so i finally got my jrx2 together ...and there is something wrong withh my slipper set up...at first the spur was super tight and really had to push hard to move it....the only way to get the car to move was to crank the slipper. Then i was spinning it and it pulled itself into the motor plate..but was really loose and felt great...so i was like huh...so i moved the pinion to line back up and it felt great...i then tightened the slipper back up and the spur was super tight again......i think the backing plate is getting pulled into the gearbox?



Should i put a bearing in that gap that we see on the shaft? The box looks like it got chewed up a little from the slipper plate...

I am so close ...this is killing me.....any help would be great!!

i think somewhere on here there was mention of the slipper plate back to short had to run a spacer?

i think there was an update on the slipper back.

Looking at what you have, it seems like you have the short losi inner slipper plate.. I know DerbyDan had a similar problem and fixed it by reaming out his tranny case.. it is in his build thread.. losixxxkid showed the slipper plate with the long shank for his tranny.. when I did mine, I used both slipper plates from the b4 but instead used a small tamiya bearing as a spacer.. it works but pushes the gear a bit too far out for my liking.. thinking of doing a change and putting in a bearing into the motor plate to support the shaft and act as a spacer.. I just haven't got to it yet.. been too fixated on my yokomos as of late..

I'll try to locate the threads for you and post them up unless someone chimes in beforehand..

Alien the plate going into the gearbox is the left one....its the long shank....Honda that would be great....also didnt mention that when i go into reverse teh thing just slips like mad...maybe just not tight enough?

Probably what is happening is that the back plate locks up and the slipper just slips.. you are just spinning the spur gear at that point.. you tighten it up and it forces the back plate into the tranny housing and it is hard or doesn't turn at all because it is just digging in..

That makes sense...now i need to figure out how to fix it

should there be a washer or spacer on the top shaft. the push it out towards the motor plate so the packing plate doest go as far in?

didnt know if the long or short.

You need to use the spacer if you are using two short boss slipper plates, but since zuki250 is using the longer boss item on the gearbox side no spacer is required. Basically it appears that the hole in the gearbox casing needs to be opened up (using reamer, drill or file) enough to allow the 'boss' part to pass into the hole & sit 'home' on the end of the flat on the layshaft.... but not too large or the bearing won't be held captive by the case moulding.

I had exactly this problem and with the help of the guys on this Losi forum 'we' solved it. There are some early gearbox cases with a smaller hole for the top shaft to go through. Later gearbox cases had a bigger hole in them. It doesn't take much reaming to make the hole bigger and then you can sit back and have a beer.

I use AE slipper plates on my JRX-pro before and remember reaming the holes to clear the back slipper plate, it'll expose some part of the bearing but it will hold fine.

Thanks Dan for clearing it up.. I got fixated on the long boss plate and forgot there was a spacer on the short one..

Haha no probs

P.S; @ zuki250 - if you put some washers under your motor screws you will be less likely to chew up the motorplate (which affects fine adjustment of your mesh of the pinion with the spur gear)
