OrangeRx GR300 dsm receivers are they any good, I have a spektrumsr3500 around my house but cannot find it and its driving me nuts. So I'm looking on ebay and came across this OrangeRx GR300 dsm receiver for $20.00. Anyone use one? Any thoughts on them or should i spend a bit more or will this suffice for a runner rc10?

Thanks

I just bought one and put it in my SC18, it is super tiny which is one of the reasons I chose to put it in that truck. It bound quickly and the short period I played around with it everything seemed to work just fine. I ended up ordering another one that I plan on using in one of my other cars. I was swapping receivers for a while but with the price of the OrangeRx ones seem like they will be the end of my receiver swapping days. I will keep the Spektrums in the race rigs and OrangeRx in the bashers.

Yeah cool I think i'll order one tonight. I mean $20 bux right i'm sure we've all gambled with a $20 before. Thanks for the reply, plus I like the fact that it is a 3 ch, never know when you're gonna need that extra port, and it looks super small much like my 3500 thats gone missing here. :|

@ JK Racing hmm... ok how do you know???? I just about hit the by it now but I dont think it will work with my radio... Spektrum DX3.0...receiver says its not backward compatible...And yeah I was on the HobbyKing site looking at them too, $9.99 for the 3 channel but it seems to not be compatible with my radio, hmmm oh well the one I'm using the JR XR2i still works but its an am radio.... :( will just splurge on a spektrum receiver.... :) If my other one doesn't show up...

I bought a DSM2 hack kit for one of my old radios (OrangeRX) and 2 of the SR300 receivers. Waited my 3 weeks while they traveled on the slow boat over....hooked up my kit, wouldnt bind*. Searched high and low, left and right. Found out a lot about DSM :) DSM transmitters (older JR radios and older kit Losi radios and Spektrum Modules) dont talk to DSM2. DSM2 came out later, in the DX3R model range. Some of the DX3S models were DSM only then later DSM2 (and another guess how I found out :( ). I ended up buying a DX2S for my son, AFTER verifying it was DSM2 capable. Since then he uses my OrangeRX receivers in his race cars and dad gets the older spektrum stuff :) One day, I will upgrade again, but not for a while.

The DX3.0 radio is in the older JR case, it is DSM only. Not DSM2.

*So...why wouldnt it bind? DSM2 has air and ground channels, and guess what? They dont work together :(

Well yesterday after work I snuck over to the hobby shop and picked up a Spektrum SR201 receiver, Cost me 29.00 for the unit. I was also looking at the DX2L radio at the store too, the guy said he just got it in that morning. Has a few more settings on it compared to the DX2E, better throttle and end point adjustments, three throttle limiting settings... Eh its something worth checking out without breaking the bank. Oh and the guy says it supported DSM2 so those orange receivers are or should be compatible with the radio. Didn't have enough funds to get the radio this week but come friday next week I'll pick one up i left a small 20.00 deposit on it.... I remembered why I didn't use the JR XR2i am radio, it glitched real bad like terrible.. Now its glitching real bad in my RC10 now... lol when i try turn from stand still it hops forward after the wheels straighten out lol. I did buy a cap and tried to make my own glitch buster.. ehh it helped a bit but still glitches bad...so I gave up thats why I went out and got the DSM 2 channel rec, will force me to upgrade the radio.. :)

I have been using one of these OrangeRX GR300 receivers in my race M05 Mini, and I cannot fault it.. I'm using a Spektrum DX3R transmitter, and I cannot see or feel any difference between the Orange RX and the genuine Spektrum RX..

Buy them at HobbyKing, way cheaper than sellers on Ebay.

I sent my DX3S to Horizon Hobby the other day, having it upgraded to DSM2.

I also bought a few orange receivers at least a year ago, not knowing that my radio was DSM only.

The upgrade will fix that though.

They got the radio and did the work, it was shipped back to me yesterday. It took 5 days or so to get from Calgary to Champaign.

Should take a few days to get back here and we will see how it all works out.

I thought it was $75 for the upgrade, they charged me $50. I spent $21 to ship it there. So $71 into it so far.

I talked with a very nice gent on the phone as he was looking at the radio and I asked about an upgrade to a different model.

I could have spent another $50 and gotten the DX4S, I thought that was a great deal. AVC and all with the new one. I was shocked that it was offered.

I decided to just leave it for now. I do have another DX3S with a loose steering rate knob, I just might inquire about sending it for repair but get a trade in for that one possibly.

Overall, I say it is worth it. But let me see what it does with the Orange receivers when I get it back.
