I have the overdrive set:
white nylon countergear, metal color back gear and black color front gear.

I also have the standard front gear (blue). The blue gear was sold separtely, so the there must be a way to mount it on the backgear. I just can't find how to remove the black gear and replace it by the blue one.
any suggestions?

If you find out, please let in on the secret as well. I'm in the same situation, the metal counter gear has tiny amount of rust (even though it's brand new). I want to seperate the pieces so I can take a wire brush to it, but I don't want to damage the nylon gear.

I believe the metal gears are pressed in (2 piece). I remember taking a stripped Ultima one apart to put a 32 pitch Blackfoot center on it, so I could run 48p pinions on my blackfoot

.
I dont remember if it was easy or not

but I do remember running that 48p blackfoot with a 15turn Checkpoint in dirt oval...it was a screamer.

I'm pretty sure they are pressed in also. Go ahead and give it a try, if you screw it up, I'll send you another.

It's a tube with a falnge one side, the spur slideas over the tube and then the back gear is pressed on.
If I had a lathe I 'd make a samll tool to use with a bench press in no time.
The bad news: just found the blue spur all chewed up in the middle of the hobby room. seems my dog liked it too
Jim, do you have some more blue ones?

Here's a pic with in the top some parts I used to press the sleeve out of the the metal backgear.
In the middle what my dog considered a nice pass-tme.
And in the bottom the separated parts
Pm if anyone has a new 64 teeth spur

Hi Mr. ED, the pic doesn't work, can you try to re post it? I have a similar set up and am interested to see how this thing breaks apart.

I just forgot to attach it, corrected now
So is that white gear wobbling ofr you also?
It was pretty hard to get on the axle, maybe I bent the axle?
(did you ever try using one of the later axles: black color and no flat face for a set screw? I think mine was from the calibra. The small gear on the inside is kept in place with a crosspin rather than the setscrew of the alu versions. anyway, I tried using that and found it is not as good as the earlier axle: not straight even though it was new from the kit

)

mine has a white spur gear, but is ruined. looks like the former owner got a stone stuck between it and the pinion and continued running it for a while...
what axle you are referring to? I'm not sure I understand...

The top axle which has the white countergear on the outside and top gear on the inside.
The white nylon robinson gear does not turn nice and parallel to the moterplate for me.
So I'm not sure it is even worth getting the spur issue fixed

OK, I see. I don't have mine installed so I don't know if its bent, I'll check it to see if my spur is worth replacing...

I checked mine today, the counter gear is not the same as yours ED, it is press fitted and not held with a cross pin. As far as I could see it isn't bent.
shodog -my original spur is 44 tooth, but I might want a different size so I could play with the final ratio, can you tell me what other sizes you have?

44

that's serious over-drive
the blue spur had 64 teeth and was equal in size to the original gear.
