Having fun with Tamiya Minis & Italian-job Coach!

Myself & a few other members of my local R/C car club travelled the short distance to the up & coming model shop/R/C venue Radshape RC for a special open day event dubbed 'Tamiya Takeover'.

Fellow club member Richard, has been scratch building a R/C model of the Legionnaire Coach that featured in the famous heist film The Italian Job. This is actually the second coach that he has built - the first one he debuted a couple of years ago at a Japanese car show (JAE) but had miscalculated the length/scale of the coach which mean't only two Tamiya Minis would fit into the back. Whilst he was building the Mk2 Coach Rich added all sorts of extra fun features & upgrades over the MK1 coach - various lights, sound effects, opening side door, steering & head turning driver figure etc etc!

Anyway Richard used the 'Tamiya Takeover' event as a suitable deadline to have the Italian Job coach finished & ready - so we all went up with our Minis & put on a little display on RadshapeRC's short drift track... Kettering Club Member, Adam collected the footage taken on various cameras from the day & put together this nice little video;

Brillant team work there! Love it! Would be cool to see more from the coach creation and functioning. How many channels were used? 4?

Thanks for the kind comments - I think Richard, the builder of the Coach would be most appreciative :D

I don't know much about the Coach other than that at the heart of it are the remains of an old Tamiya touring car chassis (TL-01?) - The transmitter is an aeroplane unit with multi channels - so switches can be flicked to activate doors/ramps etc over & above the fwd/rev & steering controls to drive the coach.

I love the way the Coach drives - it has a surprising turn of speed & is quite manoeuvrable with the twin steering at the front.
