Re: 3 truck project - 10T 7001, 10T WOIN and T2 WOIN
Last night when I checked on the trans case soaking in the peroxide, it was starting to look a little better. Unfortunately, when I went back this morning, the lamp was off and had that aroma that tends to accompany the release of smoke from electronics. I'm glad I didn't pay much for that POS! Tonight I need to take it apart and see if it's something cheap/easy to fix or if I need to find an alternate light source. In the meantime, I stuck the pan on the window sill, but since we're smack in the middle of winter and it's snowing today, I'm not expecting much ambient UV to make it's way into the bowl.

It looks like the parts are lightening up nicely, but now the bowl of peroxide is starting to freeze! 9 degrees and dropping right now, and that garage window leaks like a sieve.

Re: 3 truck project - 10T 7001, 10T WOIN and T2 WOIN
I finally had time to collect some of my pictures, as well as to make some progress.
First, let's get caught up. As I mentioned above, after putting the suspension parts through the UV treatment, I moved on to the Stealth trans from my 2nd 10T. Unlike the parts on the black 10T, the parts off the blue one are pretty yellowed, including the trans. I used an original front bumper that I picked up as my comparison part, and whitened all of the other parts until they looked the same as the bumper. I did the same with the trans, but this time I took a "before" pic to show how yellow the trans case was:
I put the trans case into the peroxide and set up the UV light. When I went back to it the next day, the UV light was out and smelled like burned electronics. This is what I saw when I opened it up:
So with that no longer operational, I had to resort to the window sill in the bay window above my garage. Unfortunately, Vermont sun in late December/early January isn't exactly strong, and we were having below-zero temps. Because the window is poorly sealed, and I don't heat the upstairs, this is what my parts looked like most of the time:
After a number of days on my window sill, the trans case eventually lightened until it looked like the bumper, but unfortunately I forgot to take pics. I did take some pics of the trans after I rebuilt it. Unfortunately, the ball diff was smoked, as were most of the trans bearings, so it wound up being fairly expensive to get this stealth trans up to snuff. The only part of the ball diff that I reused was the center plastic gear. Anyway, here it is all bolted up to a very nice used motor brace that I picked up:
While I was waiting for Mother Nature to lighten the trans case, I dismounted the tires from the wheels, and cleaned everything up. I'm super happy with how clean I was able to get the tires:
The front wheels look really good, but there's some pretty nasty curb rash on the rear wheels. Since AE is selling the front wheels so cheap, rather than re-use the old ones, I'm just going to use the new ones. Fortunately I was able to score a great deal on some new rear wheels, as well as some narrow front wheels. I also went on a bit of a buying spree and bought a lot of other parts, including new turnbuckles (which turned out to be the wrong ones - they have the square centers instead of hex, so I picked up a nice used set of hex turnbuckles too), some nice Pro 90 rear tires, a super nice motor brace, and a brand new front bulkhead plate (which I forgot to put into the pic).
Aside from a couple odds & ends, all I need now is a body & body decals. I also need to strip & re-anodize the blue chassis to use on this truck. Hopefully the local anodizing place will do it cheaply next time they do something black. If not, I may attempt to do it myself.

hmm... they're hosted on Photobucket. The truck has some early parts and some mid-run parts. One thing that I'm a bit unsure of is the difference between early and mid arms. I can't find pics of the non-webbed arms. But, this is going to have somewhat of a mixture of parts anyway.marlo wrote:I cant see any pics sounds like an early #7001.

Now the pics are up, Great start! .... I need your front tires I'll read over everything again ( I tend to skip words without pics ) but are you going after a true early #7001?

I had a set of those front tires that hadn't been run but had slight cracking in the side walls on one side so I threw them away!

I'm going after as close to an "early" 7001 as I can, including the Pro 45 front tires, Pro 90 rears, and a set of skinny fronts. I actually have 2 early/mid 7001s that I'm pulling parts from. The one unknown for me is the suspension arms.marlo wrote:Now the pics are up, Great start! .... Well, to be true to an "early" 7001 you would need non-webbed arms. Also, with your pro-45 / 90 (non-logo'd) tire combo, you would need an early non-eared stealth trans brace. Your off set B stamp is correct however.

Re: 3 truck project - 10T 7001, 10T WOIN and T2 WOIN
I've got a plan for the non eared stealth brace.
Based on the 10T sticky, this is a non webbed rear:
And this is a webbed rear:
Here's mine:
Based on the radius webbing, it appears that I do indeed have the "mid" arms.

The arms you have are webbed, and still "correct" for an early. The non-webbed arms are from the very first run of kits, with other parts mentioned earlier. The thin webbed arms were only found in kits, and not in support packs.

Well, I finally have a very minor update. Last night I boiled the white parts that I dipped in Peroxide a while back. Hopefully soon I'll start some assembly.

Marlo,
What about these?
Early thin webbed?
I bought these for a restoration project after I got them I realized the part number is for a GT.
Cheers, Dave.
