A&L team car buggy

I would post this in the RC10 section....but the only AE parts are the battery holders :)

Back story....so a couple months back I am racing at IERC in San Bernardino..vintage class. An older gentleman comes over and we talk for a bit, he has an A&L chassis'd car, but modded with a Losi Pro SE front end. I comment on how cool it is, but he isnt running it, no radio gear, just brought it with him knowing it was vintage night. I commented I would love to build one like it and race it as well...shelves are for racing trophies, not cars :)

Fast forward to this past Friday...I see him there and wave hi. A few minutes later as I am setting up my pits, he brings a bag over and said I will need to copy some parts off his car to complete it....what???? In the bag is an A&L graphite chassis, alloy arms and custom cut front end, with custom delrin arms. A small sheet of graphite (for the tower and trans brace) and a sheet of delrin, to make the other little bits and bobs it needs. We talk for a bit and he said after the races, we will take his car apart so I can trace the missing parts. The night went long, as racing finished, he just brings over the car and says take it home and copy the parts....I will complete clean his car up as I copy the parts to build one for me.

So...the car, straight off the track with broken servo:

No rear bulkhead to mention, just a delrin piece down low and up for the trans mount.

I also noticed comparing his LW to my own, the alloy motor plate, which wraps around like a Losi plate. Not sure if those were available or if it was made for him directly.

Onto the chassis I will start with:

And the 'missing' pieces I will need to source:

Sure was a creative gentleman in his days.
Which design will you go for: the losi front or full custom?
It will be fun seeing this come togehter.

Goodluck.

The Losi front is the other driver's car. I am doing a full clean up and upgrading his speedo (as a surprise and thank you) and returning the car to him. It is currently torn down so I can copy the needed parts.

The custom front end car is the one I am building up for myself. A couple quick eyeball type measurements looks like the custom front end car is AE truck sized...I am going to stick with the delrin arms, as long as it will be the right width and not narrow.

So he just gave you those other parts? Late Christmass presents sometimes are the best ;)

Most of those missing parts don't look too tough to reproduce with some simplifications, or improvements perhaps.

What shell was he using on those cars?

It looks like and A&L based RC10 buggy body...nothing odd or weird. I have a pic for you:

That's pretty cool....it looks like it was built by Daryl Lane.

Was he the "gentleman" you met or did the car belong to someone who ran for Team A&L?

Daryl did say he was involved with all the team cars, but it was not Daryl directly, but one of his team drivers. That thread will give me some great ideas on getting this more A&L 'like' :)

There's a pretty good shot of the A6L prototype at the 91 worlds a little over a third down this page:

Good Morning, after reviewing the pictures again I am pretty sure the front arms were one of the pair Chris and I designed and cut out for his Detroit Worlds car build. We most have made close to 10 different sets of front arms before settling on a design for the car. So they are not truck arms we were always making longer suspension arms for our cars, tracks were rougher back then.

Be careful when you run the car that delrin breaks easy especially when it is cold.

Detroit worlds...91? After this car build up, my plan is a NIX91 :) Would love to build a JR-XX as well, but the gold losi shocks are a rare find.
