Mike's mid motor rc10

Since its going to be awhile until I can get electronics for my team car I'm going to mock up a mid motor car on a spare chassis. :D

So is there any disadvantage to running the motor in reverse if you dont flip the top shaft

Got a little more done today! Still deciding on what i want to do with the back of the chassis and bracing the chassis.

I was just talking with a buddy about doing this. Any reason why you choose to flip the top shaft. All the others are flipped as well but thought if you didn't you could keep the entire motor plate and secure that to the chassis? Love the progress I'll be watching this one

I dont think the motors are made to perform well when spinning in reverse. I think the timing would be off... :?:

Brushed motors are designed to go in one direction but if you use a mod motor you can flip the endbell to run it in reverse.

Unsensored brushless motors don't mind going in reverse but brushless motors with a sensor need a reversable ESC.

You definitely don't want to just flip your controls so forward is reverse and vice versa...or rewire the polarities through your ESC. Your ESC won't really like it. ;)


If you don't want to flip the top shaft you can put an idler gear between the pinion and spur gear. That was a common thing to do right before the 4 gear transmissions started showing up.

The last, and cooler vintage, option though would be to use a Hyperdrive pulley/belt for the pinion and spur. :)

BTW, if you have any interest in bracing it like i did mine, I'm thinking about making the mounts i made available from shapeways (in nylon).

I reversed the shaft so spur gear and wheels spin in the same direction as I'm not sure how it will run if they are spinning in the opposite direction.

most mid-motors today run 4-gear ("MM4") trannies to still load the rear tires... with MM3, you end up getting A LOT of front end ;)
