i got a replacement servo which is a bit shorter than a standard sized servo, but the short servo mounting holes seem to be for a more narrow servo. Im going to drill a new hole for mounting (the rest of the tub is swiss cheesed up already via privious owner), but just curious if this is how everyone else manages the short servo install? Also, is there a particular futaba style servo saver that i can install a ball joint into without splitting the plastic? i reamed it out a little prior, but split my current one slightly - should work fine for a while tho.

The ball joint has a step that causes the saver to split. Use a washer preferably on both sides and it won't split anymore. Traxxas servos savers have huge holes and work fine

Not sure about shorty servos, but the second set of holes was for the old mini servos not so much a low profile.

id like to straiten my link between my servo and my steering crank instead of the diagonal it has with the standard mount position... Is that a good idea or unnec?

It's a great idea if you can pull it off. I usually mount the ball joint to the back side of the servo horn or saver and that helps a lot

HI!... Heat up the screw with a lighter before screwing it in. Won't split the plastic. This is a well know tip for Tamiya plastic.
