Every build has a starting point and this one is no different. I got inspired when I purchased an NOS Rooster and looked at the back of the box and the instructions. From that point I was hooked and so my build begins. Hope you guys enjoy.

Nice choice of build. For the wheels, I'm sure you could strip the chrome with Purple Power and then dye them neon pink.

That's the plan, they are all ready stripped down to white, tho there are a few spots I want to get a little cleaner before dying. Do you have any suggestions on which dye to use to get the darker hot pink like HPI used for their wheels back in the day. So far I've seen two pinks from RIT, a lighter pink and one they call fuchsia.

Hard to say. the fuchsia will be really bright pink. The HPI pink is a little more subdued, and those photos show it as a dark pink. I'd probably try the fuchsia and then maybe red after for short dunks until you get the desired color, but that's just my thoughts....

I have some custom rit dye (commercial bags from rit) that ive been playing with, the hot pink looks pretty close to the old hpi color. It's brighter than the pink from the store.

Nice project! I've always liked that Novak 10T.
It might be easier for you to find a set of molded pink HPI wheels. I've seen a few sets come up for sale on ebay over the years. I used to have pink SuperStars on my LX-T and I can honestly say that it will be almost impossible to get a dyed wheel to look exactly like the molded plastic.

I'll keep my eyes open on ebay until I can get some but for now I just want something close. I kind of like jwscab idea about using the two dyes . Not to mention I can throw in some shock rod ends in the red for future builds and kill 2 birds with one stone. Gomachv your pink looks almost perfect but I really couldn't bring myself to ask to purchase some from you, besides I have always looked forward to challenges. Next update should be in the next day or two, post teardown, maybe some pre and post cleaning. We'll see.

A quicker update than I thought I got her torn down and I found something weird. Everything looked good except for one part of the steering servo savor parts is cracked. Luckily the Novak 10T used black and I have a new set of the plastic parts for that. The weird thing I was with the main chassis: what I thought was a dent in the bottom from bottoming out on a rock or something was actually from the inside out. I think it's from the stamping process when it almost got the "B" the picture with the arrow shows the upper edge of it.

Got a lot done this weekend. All the white parts are clean, the chassis, nose plate, and motor mount are cleaned and painted and I'm ready to start dying. Any suggestions on which yellow to use? I've also started the mock-up as well and it's at this point I noticed the Novak 10T has black front and rear shock towers. Well I'll use the white ones for now and come up with an order for Fiber Lyte (I've been wanting to place an order with them anyways, now I have an excuse).

Very cool!
What great inspiration for a build.
I just love these early trucks with the white suspension components.

Just got one of these myself, and it looks very similar.... apart from a cut-down chassis tub. Will be following for inspiration!

Gotten a lot done since my last update:
1) Scored a new front set of pink super stars and a set of Duratrax molded shock towers (prob what Novak used on their truck)
2)Got the body from TBG and spoiler from Associated, both are pre-trimmed and fitted to the truck and ready for final fitment and paint. Just need to decide if I'll do the layout just like Novak or make both sides more identical. Prob going with more identical since I don't have the exact decals needed(my "ROOSTER" decal is a orange to yellow fade instead of solid red and the Team Novak decal I put on the hood in front of the scoop won't be pink I only have two of those and I need them for the bed)
3)Got the pink dying done. And after getting the new fronts, way too dark. Solution bought a new set of white rears and use the fronts as guides to slowly get them close to the same color.
4)Got the yellow dying down. Front bumper turned out great, a-arms too dark. Solution live with them till they fade to the right shade, besides I actually like the way they look , the darker shade adds to the truck.
5)Got the truck assembled to a rolling chassis and mounted most of the electronics, need to decide what motor to use tho I have a Mr. Outlaw Reedy, Peak Racing Jaguar, Fantom Racing Team Edition ROAR 98, a Trinity Speed Gems (this one is new), a Cam Pro Motor, and not to mention a new Reedy Radon, decisions, decisions !

Very impressive. This makes me reconsider using my old RPM wheels, and dying them like you did (different color though)

Can you let me know what dye you used? I have never done that, and it looks amazing on your truck. Thanks.
