First time I've ever seen the shaft of a motor snap.... now I have a motor can that needs a new armature.... a.k.a. a fancy paperweight!

Mate me too,had a 0.71 shaft that has threads that don't go on or off just straight for one turn, and a 1.65 turnbuckle with the threads opposite of the usual orientation...

Wow, that's a first for me, too.

I've seen it when small rocks get jammed in the gears or if using small pinions that come loose, the grub screw will snap it off nearly every time if it hits the gear. I haven't seen a 5mm shaft break but plenty of 1/8".

I had that happen many many years ago with a very old brushed motor. I was living in a place with a heated underground garage having some fun with an old Losi truck.

Second battery into the fun, SnAp! I could not believe what was laying on the floor. Swapped the motor out and kept going. I was kind of amazed really.
