Mabuchi Motor, A Strange Animal?

I came across this in a box of old electronics stuffed in the closet, which I never payed much attention to.

I can't say that I've seen another or that I've really looked, but I find this motor interesting. Max input voltage is 8.4v and max output power is 280watts. Motor timing is adjusted from the front of the can.

The motor looks pretty new but it's a shame the label is scuffed a bit.... :(

Can anyone tell me more about these? Year, history, turns, anything etc...?

I've never seen one of those motors before. Interesting brush/spring setup.

That name is very familiar, I thought Mabuchi made many of the stock/oem motors that came with the cheaper kits.

I did a quick google search RJ. Looks like that model was used in electric helicopters.

I have a couple that are similiar to these with the same spring set-up. I will post up pctures of them when I get home.

Even if it is a heli motor I think it would be a good motor for an offroad car. It feels quite strong, responsive and revs well.

The brush set up is interesting for sure. I was surprised when I saw a pro looking Mabuchi motor.

I had a better look. Check out Tamiya Dynatech 01R motors. Not just for helis then.

Thanks
