Hello,

I want to thank everyone for the help that I've received here however I've got a question about the Sidewinder 3. From their website it states that only LiPos 2 and 3 can be used however I'm trying to find out if there is any kind of Ni-Mh batteries that can be used? I'm not really hot on the whole LiPo battery that can either blow up or just combust along with the price of them. Please let me know if there is anything I can do or another ESC that will fit the bill as well for brushless for a good price, thank you.

Yes you can use ni-mh batteries but honestly - lipo is the way to go. It has auto lipo cutoff so no worries about that part. There is no memory and you can run it then leave it at 80% charge for a long time and it won't lose much charge at all.

Plus they have more consistent voltage throughout the discharge cycle and you can get huge capacity.

Most of the "blowing up" part is due to people mis-using them. It's also a very rare occurance, it's unlikely you'll ever see one in person.

That said, go lipo, you won't regret it. I;'m an old-school RC guy who just got back into the game 2 years ago after a 20 year hyatus. Last thing we had were Nicads, I missed the whole NiMh era. We went straight for the Lipos when we got back into it. Haven't regretted it for a second.
