Traxxas Radicator 2

Here's another little treasure that I picked up in a lot of three cars....took it apart and washed the parts and put it back together, now I need to source a body and tires...I don't know yet, whether to keep it or sell it....we'll see....

I question whether it's a rad 2, or radicator with a tranny conversion, either way, I think the white makes it look like the rpm chassis conversion for the rc10....I like it...

I got these wheels a couple of days ago, along with a set of Tamiya hex wheel adaptors for one of my Tamiya, but installed them on the RAD, and I gotta say, it looks pretty sweet, I might keep this one to complement my Vintage RC10....

Oh yeah, I also had to replace the rear buggy axle, with the longer truck axle...

Rad 2 for sure. Radicator had shorter towers, white shocks, pink wheels, no chassis brace, etc

Yep. Rad 2. Tires might still be at towerhobbies, and team blue groove on eBay pulls new bodies.

Traxxas Rad 2 -- Clodbuster Hardbody...

I know many people on here love the restorations and stock out of the box builds, and although I do enjoy looking at them, I was never one to settle for stock....having that said...

Here's what I came up with, Rad 2 with Hawk 2 axles and Tamiya lunchbox wheels and tires....

I wanted to leave this chassis unharmed and in white, so I had to find a truck Hard body that would fit the chassis' 11" wheelbase without hacking or cutting neither the chassis or the body....

After researching for a couple of weeks, the Clodbuster hardbody was the closest to the 11" wheelbase that I needed....

Once again, not wanting to hack or cut or re-drill new mounting hole on the new, very expensive body, I used some aluminum L-shaped aluminum bar mounted on the stock Rad shock towers, and then mounted the stock, clod body mounts on them....

I’ve had this for more than two years, I tried to sell it a couple of times on eBay, and didn’t sell, I wasn’t really interested in doing anything with it.
....it sat around body less, and on the verge on becoming a parts car.....

Then I decided to work on it.....

I’ve never liked the stock Hawk 2 body, and dreaded how small the wheels and tires were on it, but in order to fit bigger tires, I needed a narrower body...

I was on a mission to body this chassis with some sort of Stampede body, when I went to the hobby shop, they didn’t have an unpainted Stampede body, so I went with the ECX Amp body, which is an 11” wheelbase body and a little over 6” wide.....perfect dimensions for the Hawk...

Went with an old school paint scheme, and should have left it alone, but having experimented with the wonderful styrene, I whipped up a couple of roll bars and added a Hi Lift aftermarket light bar, a Clodbuster blower, scx10 front bumper, and a Blackfoot Driver torso and Axial head....

Added a set of extra RC4wd 90mm King Shocks. Ball bearings, Traxxas xl5 esc, titan 12t 550 motor, and Duratrax 1.9 showdown wheels/tires.....

Now I’m glad I didn’t get rid of it.....

I turned out awesome....

Im definitely going to get some wide arms, this thing is too fun not to, maybe some rpm wide stampede fronts and some stampede rears....

Thanks for the comments, I’m really liking how this thing is coming together....

Here are a couple of upgrades,

RPM front wide arms with and hex conversion(Stampede)

Rpm rear arms

Traxxas Big Bore shocks and camber links.

Might go all out and add heavy duty Mip CVD and a brushless system of some sort, possibly a 13.5....although this xl5/titán combo makes it a beast to drive

Looks like a modern Stampede sort of now.

just be sure to check all of the rear chassis bracing(and plate) more often now that you have bigger levers on the chassis. keep the screws tight.
