How freely does your tranny spin?

Ok...I've started working on my RC10 buggy. The first thing I did was rebuilt the 6 gear tranny. I replaced all the bushings with bearings, added new idler gears and cleaned out any and all dirt and debris. I finished it last night and I have to admit I was quite proud of myself as to how smooth it turned when I was done. Then tonight while looking over this site I came across this
http://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=3748

At the end ov that artical is says that the tranny should spinn freely for about 15 seconds when given a spin. Is that correct? 15 seconds???? Thats a very long time. I think mine is very smooth but it will only spin for about 2 seconds. I don't think I have anything rubbing at all. I think there is no way to get it to spin freely for 15 seconds. Am I wrong???

Thanks for any input.

yea jeez, i dont think even my newly built tranny's spin for 30 seconds... maybe 5-7 tops, maybe on its best day 10. even with really loose and broken in bearings, 30 seconds sounds like a stretch..

the only way i could see a trans spinning for 30 seconds would be if it was in the car, and had the rotating mass of the tires helping it.

My tranny spins right round like a record baby.

Serously though, I don't think you could get one to spin that freely

Ok...my mistake. The article says 15 seconds not 30, but even that seems like a stretch.

I edited my original post.

More like 1.5 seconds... I have a few six gears that were built by an old racer done the Jim Halsey way, without the felts in the outdrives they will go about 5 seconds. If you put 3/8 x 5/8 bearings in place of the felts and retainers subtract about 4.5 seconds... but bomb-proof.

The whole issue I have with the "secrets" is that they want you to move the outdrive pivot rather than the idler pivot to increase the gear clearance. That puts the outdrives off-center in relation to the holes in the cases. No good for the big bearing conversion IMO.

Just fill it with toothpaste and run it for a few hours.

Enough about that!
