Personally, I think it's rather awesome to see that old school work and end product!
But yes, you are quite nuts.

That seems like a lot of work for something that doesn't run very long
I didn't even know you could do all that back in the day.

A buddy of mine converted a turbo dyno to dyno brushless motors, which is more useful these days.
Do you have the niftech spring tension tool to change brush tension on the fly on the dyno? I remember I almost bought a turbodyno 45 and a magnet zapper back in the day. Also cutting timed brushes were fun, or drilling holes in brushes and stuffing with cotton using "prolong engine treatment" for drops, or using freeze spray..... Oh how simple things are these days.

My first matched packs bitd were around $120. They were a big deal. Had my 2 matched packs and a bulb discharge tree w/cutoff. Ready for the big time. Hahaha.
Hope you're doin' something fun.

Battery bugs were popular, I've still got one somewhere. I've seen many a car sitting on a stand running with the trim turned up to flatten a battery. A few people used to also store NiCd's dead shorted.
Regarding bulb dischargers I had a relay style cut off, it seemed to work well as many a time I'd forget about a battery on the bulbs only to come back and find they were extinguished.
On one hand I miss the early days but on the other I'm glad we don't have to put up will all the crap.
Most pro guys I knew used to sell off all their old gear. Race old tires, motors etc. It was a cheaper option for us poorer folk to get better race gear.
