Thanks guys! She's home now, brought her home last night. I don't think they really wanted her to go home, but she had enough of overnight stays at the hospital.

So basically, she's been having quite a bit of lower back pain for the last month. Went to the chiropractor a couple times and it didn't really seem to help. Fast forward to this past Saturday morning, she was getting ready for work and all of a sudden was in severe pain. On the floor screaming in pain...... and she's a pretty tough cookie.

Fast forward some more, ended up calling 911 to take her to the hospital because I simply could not get her out to the car with any kind of comfort (she was in really rough shape by that point). Not that they necessarily did, but at least they could get an IV started and get the pain meds flowing. In the ER they did what they could to keep her comfortable while doing blood tests and such. They kinda figured it was her sciatica, but wanted to do an MRI as well. So they kept her overnight and did that Sunday morning. That showed a disc extrusion between L5 and S1 in her spine which is pinching off the nerves to her right leg. Right now, she can't feel anything below her right knee......... to the touch. She can still feel the pain inside though.

They ended up giving her a shot of prednisone in her back to try and get the inflammation down. She'll get another one in 2 weeks as well as start with P.T. But at some point she will need surgery. Long story short, she has a long road ahead of her...... unfortunately.

In the MRI image you can see where the disc has pushed out and is sort of pinching off the nerves.

Damn, sorry to hear that Jason. Glad she has some temporary relief at least. They're doing great things with back surgery these days. As you said, it won't be overnight, but they'll get her straightened out.

yep, have a few people in my life with similar issues. All good outcomes, just take a bit of time to repair and get back to normal. She's young so that's an excellent thing. Even my wife's mom in her late 60's did pretty well with a surgery.

I'm so sorry that anyone goes through this. It is one of the worst feelings you can get. I have been dealing with two collapsed discs since a motorcycle accident in 93. It is a hard uphill battle, and for me only just the last few years it has gotten a tiny bit better. But something like a stupid sneeze or reaching for a dish in the cupboard can bring it on. I have collapsed on a supermarket floor in pain and could not move, very embarrassing . I hope she gets better quickly!
