YR4M2 Pro to 870c/YZ10 Dogfighter Mish Mash conversion

Hi all, here is my YR4 M2 Pro chassis... Most will probably think I am mad but I plan to convert it to, as much like as I can, a Dogfighter of some sort so I can race it.

I will need lots of old/new parts and I will be relying on help from here (you have no idea how much this place has helped already with everyone's build threads!) and luck (and probably lots of cash I don't have :) ) to make this happen.

I have a lot of parts from my YR4's which I have 3 full cars and one parts car which will help along the way but at best I think the car will resemble a Hotdog :)

Thanks already for all the info and I'll look forward to speaking to some.

G

Very curious to see how this turns out.

Chances are it'd be less expensive to buy a YZ10 of some sort right away, but you never know!

maybe, maybe not. seems like most of the project yokomos that get purchased end up needed a bunch of parts anyway, so if the car provides a chassis and drivetrain, you would just need the arms/driveshafts and shocks/tower to get 90% there.....I've thought about getting a touring car and converting. I definitely see parts online more than complete cars for the later yz10's.

 Seems like mixed opinions about this project.. To be honest I am the same but since having my YR4 fetish for the past 5 years they seemed too close to the dogfighter in design to to consider it.

I think 12 months down the line and an empty bank balance might change my mind though

If you can live with the short wheelbase it's a doable project to convert into a buggy.
The different motormount won't mount on a long wheelbase chassis and also uses a different length of rear belt.
An earlier version of the yr4 carries more common parts over from the works 91 design.

Isn't the Yokomo Hot Dog (entry level Yokomo buggy) basically an YR-4 with buggy arms and shock towers?

Yes, I have my own converted-to yr-4 hotdog.
The m2 is just further away from the common origin

Thanks for the Link Mr Ed, it's a good read and info!!!

Can anyone tell me if the 870c or US YZ10 shell and undertray will fit with the wheelbase I will be running?

Cheers in advance

Work continues, no new parts yet, just waiting for funds so decided to bin the M2 Pro chassis in favour for the M2 one

This is how it sits with a slightly modified front diff cover which I'll have to find the original plastic dogfighter ones eventually I guess and also with M2 top deck attached.

got one with a M2 chassis going myself. But i think i am using an older yr4 top deck with no adjustble spring setup, so i cna still use the old school caps. and have aftermarket towers on it. tcs, just need to complete the diffs.

i have a picture somewhere, the m2 chassis was a few mm shorter than a standard 93 chassis. which of course was a bit shorter than my b44.2 chassis.
