Attic find

Hey guys/gals,
New to forum, but very exited. Please excuse me if I ramble on a bit here. Like many of the threads I have read all start the same way. Yes, I found my old RC10T in my parents attic and rushed back there to retrieve and restore when I heard my neighbor running his nitro up and down the block.

I am looking to bring her back to life. Hobby shop guy dates her 91-93' in great condition. I wanted her to be fast enough to give my neighbor a run for his money.

So coming in the mail soon is a 7cell 8.4v battery, a new 2.4 remote/transmitter. A castle sidewinder 5600kv and esc, turning an original stealth tranny. I'm keeping the original servo (futoba I believe).

Now my questions are do I upgrade the top gear in tranny to the B4 and new slipper spur that I've read about in previous threads or is the originally tranny good enough? Second question, what gear ratio is fast enough to accelerate around the track and get me to 50mph range to blow the doors off my neighbors nitro. I currently have an 87t spur and 18t pinion (off my old slot machine 2 lol) This project went from lets get her back on the road for cheap, to I want bragging rights on my neighbor.

I will post pictures, when I figure out how to.

Thanks 35 year old, who feels 11 years old again

Further research states that the stealth tranny can work with a brushless set-up. I think I'm going to upgrade the top gear and slipper because I like to tinker.

Welcome! Look forward to seeing pics. It's a very nostalgic hobby indeed. I personally still use photobucket.com to post pics which may be outdated for all I know, but hey it works! Here's some info which may also itself be outdated, but I'm sure will get the job done. Good luck!

That is a potent setup. I have that same motor in me and my sons T4's. Plenty of power, the biggest problem is getting it all hooked up. Wheelies like crazy.

Camplin, what gear set up are you running? I'm running an 18pin and 87 spur powered by a 7cell 5000mah 8.4v ni. Was expecting her to move a little quicker than the 37mph I registered. Going to try a 21t pin this week to speed her up. Don't get me wrong it's a real quick 37mph,
But no wheelies yet, just balding tires hahaha

I'm having issues with esc getting hot 165 degrees with a 26t pin 87tspur. I can't get a straight answer anywhere as to a safe esc temp zone. Some say 120F some less than 180F..... Is it possible that my 7cell Nimh isn't supplying the motors demand causing the esc to run hot. I've been playing around with different pinion gears trying to find that happy medium that gets me 50mph with out blowing my esc up. Just ordered a castle fan to help esc stay a little cooler. Going to try an 81t spur on this week and see if it'll help.

Again, running a sidewinder 3 with 5700kv motor.

Thanks guys
