Every once in a while someone will answer my CL wanted ad and I'll end up with a piece like this...
A new built, never run Super Clod Buster for $60. They never even installed electronics in this thing. I've never owned a Clod or even driven one before so lucky me.
Aside from buying the 10 bearings I need and a can of paint, I'm going to use what I got and keep this a budget project.
First to go is the MSC...

Just a lil dusty from sitting for some years.
What I never understood was why does tamiya use colored plastic on chassis parts? Why did they have to do blue? Why not just keep it black. They strive for realism with their bodies then throw some blue or red uprights on it. And their lisences for model cars sponsors is always good but somehow when they re-release a RC car they gotta use their silly made up decals instead. And why the 4x4x4 on the grill? They couldn't just keep it plain since the apparently had to stop using the Chevy logo? I'm done.
Breaks out the dremel

I'll make my own damn Chevy grill...

Not my best work but it'll do. Will probably make Chevy bow tie a lil smaller and probably paint center strip on grill body color.
I couldn't do the blue parts so I went ahead and dyed them.
Now that I got rid of the blue, my body color options are wide open.

I always wanted a green Clod Buster since seeing this cover of RCCA!

Oh yeah, I have that issue. Classic material. Trying to get my buddy who has a clean Double Dare to do a Clod vs DD shootout. As far as color, I'm leaning towards Tamiya light sand but my decision will be based on what's in stock at my LHS.

Go green. My dad painted his clod's lexan body green way back when after reading that same issue of RCCA, which I still have, too. It looks very good in green. Especially with aluminum wheels.

I have the DD and Clod. I think I ran the DD 2-3 times total. After running the Clod for a while first, the DD just couldn't compare. It has more scale looks, but it's handling and longevity just weren't there for me.

I remember the Double Dare coming out as the competitor to the Clod Buster. USA1 came later. The Big Brute and Hi Rider Vette were more the competition for the Blackfoot, Mud Blaster, Monster Beetle, etc...
This issue has part 2 where the Clod narrowly beats out the DD.

That's how I remember it - the USA-1 came out later when the DD couldn't hang. I've read that issue, and still don't see how the DD even came close to the Clod, but that's my opinion, I didn't care for the truck.

My goal was to keep this a budget build but that didn't last long. I'm now making a 4 link setup and will add 2 servos for independent 4WS. Waiting for Tower to get those overpriced Proline wheels in white so I can get $10 off and free ship. Also decided on painting it green, but not that green. Anybody know where I can find a clear window for the body? This thing is going to need a driver figure...

Yeah, I've seen those lexan ones a lot cheaper on some of the scaler/crawler sites but none have em in stock. I'll check around clodtalk.
