That is the thread i have about my Mustang motor. I don't think many people actually know or acknowledge how special that motor is but for 87 - 88 the ones you saw were most likely like this one.... or possibly even this very one as it was from that same meeting!
V12 - i sent you some pictures - hope you can clear out your inbox to view them.
Milanesi was there at Portschach. He replied to my questions earlier this evening but is quite ill these days. He said he would reply some more tomorrow. He was the one who told me it was a Trinity as we were debating whether the motor he had was a Sping or not... i said it was and he insisted he sold them as a Trinity. Then I saw that Trinity advert proving it.
I speak with Umberto Pernice quite often and he helps me out with TAG parts for my cars all the time. I got hold of some ally team one-ways for my car from him a while back.

Thanks for PM.
Well I just found the motor which was made by MIH.
Even when the can looks similar to the Trinity or Sping, it is different. Based on an Igarashi again.
But look at the endbell. it looks like a shrunk Yokomo endbell. Shrunk for slot brushes.

Well now we're talking...!
What is the armature like in that and are the bearings thinner than the 'norm'...?

Re: Motor Collection - Old School Horsepower
There is a description somewhere for the armature but have to search.
Also there was an ad at a magazine but I don´t remember where.
I just know it was a very fast 1/12 scale motor.
And looking from the outside to the armature I can see a lot of copper.
I think bearing size could be seen only after disassembling.
But not for the moment.
I have too many projects currently.
From what I remember this motor was released quite late for a Igarashi.
1983 or 1984 or something.

Re: Motor Collection - Old School Horsepower
Thanks for all the info on the Igarashi motors. I've always found it fascinating how far motor builders would go to get more from the stock 35 turn units. I'm fortunate enough to own three of them. One stock and two modified versions.

You noticed the 17 etched on to the endbell too, right?
Go back about 3 pages and look at the Checkpoint selection i posted showing the endbells on mine and you will see what i mean....

Yes I did notice the 17 as well. Looks just like yours do. Nice of them to do so. Would this motor be under the Platinum series as well with the white label ?

Re: Motor Collection - Old School Horsepower
I have a 13 and two 14's, both of which have blue labels.
I then have a 15, 16 and 17 and they all have silver labels.
And then I have a 20 with a black label..... plus i have seen a photo on a forum of brand new in packet 18 and 20 both of which also have black labels.
As such, there is definitely a label colour pattern there. I would say your 17 should have a silver label version.

Re: Motor Collection - Old School Horsepower
I measured the endbell at the bearing area at 12 mm wide.
This leaves just around 1 mm for a regulat size bearing. So quite possible a smaller bearing was used.

Re: Motor Collection - Old School Horsepower
If you look at my Igarashi MG thread in the Vintage Electronics section you will see we had a few issues sourcing the correct, thinner bearings used in that. I suspected yours may be the same.
