Hey all,

Awhile back I built up a nix9200 chassis using my first real rc vehicle ( RC10 B3) that raced back in the late 90's,

I can safely say that I have a soft spot for b2 and b3's and got inspired to modernise using a 4 gear mid mount layout while using as many off the shelf products as possible.

This was my first go at chassis design and have unfortunately have made a few design errors,
but hopefully I fix them up in version 2 chassis.
These are as follows:
a better design to fit bodys better
wheelbase is 5mm shorter than a standard b3
overlooked areas to fit esc, receiver and a standard size servo.
maybe some different batt location options?

Electrics are tight!!!

My goal is to have a fun car to drive and eventually sort it %100 so I can do a proper write up of whats involved to source and build this buggy.

Heres some pics of what ive done so far,
just waiting on a amain order to complete it.









Body is a chopped up penguin repro B2.
Not the greatest but there aint many options around...

Another large hurdle I have is a functional gear cover.

Who can guess what rear end it is?

Wow, tough crowd

amain parts arrived, finished the elecs install and have done some laps in the street.

Electrics run down as follows:
Savox steering servo
turnigy trackstar turbo 120a esc
6.5t motor
turnigy saddle packs.

One last issue is the lack of gear cover,
Ive used Xfactory x6 trans etc for the rear end (yes not very creative, but its easy, looks period and kind of AE)
Normally the X6 body completely covers the chassis so there isnt a need for a gear cover.

In hindsight I should of gone with a complete B5M rear end as a doner car is far easier to find and has a gear cover as factory equipment.
Maybe next time

No track action until I can protect the spur gears from the rocks at the track

Well, I like it but I don't know how "tough of a crowd' I could be all by myself

But personally for me its all b3 version would've been enuf for me. I myself loved the b2/b3 and still would rather run something like that vs. the newer stuff. I have a b4 just so I had something to run with the b4 guys at the time and spent more time running my b3 with them.

I have a couple of standard chassis b2/3s and they are great,
But this was the excuse i was looking for to do some custom building.

Next time round will be some gold pan related projects

How does the car compare to the standard B3 ?

yeah, it's pretty awesome! Traffic through this forum is kinda slow these days, so it's not surprising you don't have lots of feedback.....but nonetheless, it's pretty sweet!!

Looks great! Nice to see my old drawing still in use and modified to create something new.

total rear susp and trans is from a xfactory x6 cubed.

Yep I kind of cheated with the chassis design
It was the kick start i needed to get some info and skills to make something more refined next time around

I like it, good job. I love seeing what people come up with engineering wise and how well it's executed. I look forward to seeing progress, a track report and seeing this car evolve

To be honest, although i can cut some clean laps, im not a front runner.
once its on the dirt i'll hand it over to some fast guys for a opinion.

As for evolving,
A fibrelyte braced b2 front tower showed today in the mail plus have picked up (well in transit from the uk) a centro 4.2 and another xfactory x6 cubed so no doubt some big bores will find their way onto this eventually.
Also means I have some more mid motor chassis stuff to play with

Got some big bores fitted.
To be honest I dont like how they mount to the front tower,
abit of spacing required!

Ive been quickly sketching some front tower designs to make some room for the shocks while keeping standard geometry.
Its hard to design something thats functional and visually period correct.
Will also address the B2's tower mount so it mounts to a B3 bulkhead with 3 bolts, insted of B2 style with just the two.

OR

measure the b2 front arms,compare them to a later rc10 buggy and consider moving the shock geometry.

The recent X6 cubed also came with some tasty hop ups including jconcepts Titanium front axles, so they will be fitted eventually.

If I'm correct the B2 arms are shorter then the B3 arms.....
From what I've read on this forum spacing is necessary with big bores. But that doen't mater in therms of geometry does it?

Not so much total arm length, but lengths between hinge pins and shock mounts.

The spaced out shock would put some side load on the shock as it travels through the suspensions arc.
Would be great to get it to mount up like a standard shock.

All these thoughts and ideas and it still may handle like a bag of potatos on the track.
