My RC12L Nearing Completion

I've been wanting a 12L for a while. Everytime I come across one it's just thrashed so I've been collecting NIP parts and waiting until I had everything. The wait is over! :D I finally got a car that was a good candidate for resto and with all the new parts I had been hoarding, I was finally able to get a decent example together. It could still use some new body posts, but overall I'm pretty pleased. I haven't painted the body yet obviously. The idea had crossed my mind to just outline the body details in black and leave it clear. Still tossing that idea around. All the chassis and engine pod plates are new. The T-bar is a exact copy of the original machined out of blue fiberglass with some blue anodized aluminum fasteners to accent it. If I do paint it, it will be a blue based paint job. The tires are brand new associated donuts from the "Edinger St" address. I don't have a tire truer and have never trued a set of foams before. I tightened down the wheels onto a long bolt with a nut and threw it in my drill chuck. ran the drill with one hand and used my mini grinder with a sanding disc in the other hand. The outcome was a nice looking evenly shaped set of tires. The mess it made was unbelievable and I won't be doing it again soon. I picked black foam boogers out of my nose for 3 days. For electrics, I went with a Novak 4 esc and a "Edinger st." red label Reedy Modified motor. Hope you guys enjoy the pics

For my shelf cars I glue some 80 grit sandpaper to a flat surface then do like you did and chuck the wheel up in a drill. You can get some good visual results doing it like this but they wouldnt work very well if you actually want to run them because they arent "true". You dont need to spin the drill wide open and it doesnt throw dust in the air and cause black buggers!

Nice looking car!

I also put together a half way decent 12i when I built this 12L. Not nearly as clean as this one , but a decent complete car. There are pics of it in my gallery. BITD I had a bolink 12 and loved it. I had always drooled over the 12L's though.

Love your 12L! I am working on my early model LW. I nearly have it complete but need a body for it. I really like the one you have on yours. May I ask, what is the name and producer and where did you find it? I would love to see it painted!

I should have wrote it down, but I forgot. I want to say it was a Lotec body by BBR. I've never seen another one. I got it with a bunch of nip bodies in a collection I purchased earlier this year. It has a distinct "batmobile" look to it that I just loved. TBG is a great source for finding 1/12 bodies. I would look at their selection if you haven't already.

I had to look it up. It is a BBR Lotec M1c. I believe from 1993.

Thanks for the info! Sounds like they are quite rare to find. Maybe there is one similar. I really like the old GTP style bodies for 12th scale.

BTW - what is TBG?

I found some old cells in good shape so I decided to mount them in my 12L and do a proper wiring job. As soon as I come across a nice bumper and some new body mounts, I might just finish it. I still have not decided on painting it or not.

Nice, very nice. I should start collecting NIP parts to build one, seems that's about the only affordable (?) way to get a 12E/L. I have a 12R5.2 that's never been run... yet. I do have a tire truer.
