Not sure what vehicle this is, but check out the suspension design.

It’s made by Awesomatix and it’s pretty darn sweet

Are those rotary dampers? Like a Model A!

That's a sweet car, more pics? Anyone on here got one?

Yup rotary! They claim to have low initial friction and no air

Interesting, yeah I guess they wouldn't need any air or bladders, should be much more consistent and have less stiction. Cool "out of the box" design for sure. Although rotary dampers are quite old.

My Tigermoth LCG is a compound cantilever- were there other versions?

That's an awesomatix - it's a russian DTM EP car that is having a bit of a cult following, because (1) it is disruptively innovative (2) it is beautifully executed, no cut corners (3) last but not least it performs (very) well on the track... if you can put in the time testing it, because setting it up, as you can guess, can be a bit of a challenge  The oil shock absorbers are helicoidal, think Hydradrive if you want. you cannot change the fluid but you can adjust them externally

There are two "core" versions: a shaft- and a belt-driven one... with some crazy features for the shaft one like a floating front bulkhead to prevent torque-twisting the chassis under ac-/dec-eleration, etc...

The car is expensive, there are constant (expensive) updates, but this is such a beautiful and crazy design... and it works. But boy is it demanding if you want to go fast with it.

you can see the first proto (from 2007...) here:

http://www.redrc.net/2007/04/prototype-russian-ep-touring-car/

For the record and to toot my own horn, I coined the nickname "Problematix" for it, and that name has got a bit of a following too: at least two (maybe three?!?) of my racing buddies use it

Awesome design, but I wouldn't run one for anything in the world

No worries, I love the oddball stuff and wondered if I missed seeing it!

Agree, the tranny is a fascinating design. However, knowing that bevel gears are less efficient at transferring power than straight cut gears, why do you suppose they are utilizing three sets of bevel gears where only two sets are required (one at each end of the center drive shaft) if the motor was mounted longitudinally? Is it due to the torque reactive nature of the motor's armature and how it could affect handling?

Edit: Also, having the spur on a separate shaft will make it easier to replace. I have a ProSC 4x4 and its spur is fixed to the center drive-line and accessing it is a real pain; you must split the rear gear case to remove the spur.

They make some of the cooler cars I've seen, but I haven't heard many positive firsthand reviews of the performance. Maybe its a setup issue. Either way, the innovation is great to see, and might provide some ideas for other manufacturers... until traxxas patents it anyway.

Nahh...Traxxas won't try to patent something truly unique...they might try to patent carbon fiber, or nuts & bolts, though. Or maybe they'll patent the gear.
