"Replica" of RC12e from my childhood

So, I haven't really been interested in pan cars since getting back into RC a few years ago. When I was reading through the 1/8 build of V12's that's going on now something came up about a timeline of all their cars on AE's website. I remembered having an AE pan car when I was about 10-12 or so, so I decided to see if I could figure out what it was by looking through the timeline. Well, a few minutes later I figured it out, it was a 12e. Some texts back and forth with Jeff and we figured out the example I had had was a very early 12e. And as luck would have it, Jeff had the exact car and was willing to sell it! As luck would also have it, Jeff and his wife were coming to So Cal, so I got to meet Jeff and got my 12e hand delivered!
We actually got the car back in the day for free, probably around 81 or 82. The guy down the street raced dirt bikes, and he had a mechanic, Kurt Jablonski, who came to maintain and prep his race bikes part time. Kurt, or Jablonski, as everyone called him, and I became good friends. I used to ride my bicycle down there all the time, and if Jablonski was there I'd hang out and talk to him as he worked on the bikes and try to learn what I could from him. Anyway, at some point in the early 80's he gave my brother and I an Associated 12e. Before this we had only had toy grade cars, so this thing was just amazing and fast beyond belief to us.
Eventually we ended up getting Sand Scorchers and other off road cars as they were better suited to our neighborhood and we lost interest in the 12e, eventually getting rid of it probably as the swap meet.
From what I remember about the car, other than being an early 12e, was that it had a "turd brown" body on it, Can-am style, and I think without a driver. We also had a Futaba radio that I believe had sticks.
Anyway, here's the car I got from Jeff: The car is already perfectly restored, I just need to get a body, radio, receiver, and battery. I'll probably try to find a body as close as I can remember to what our car had on it, although i probably won't paint it crap brown, lol
I may try to work some brown into it though, we'll see. For the radio, I think I'm going to go with Futaba FP T 2F, rather than a stick controller. I've been looking for an excuse to get one and I think it's period correct for a 12e? We did have one on some other car or cars in the early 80's. If anyone has one and it's receiver in working order they would be willing to part with let me know.
