RC10 Factory Works C2 "Tuber" Build

I've wanted a tube caged RC10 since joining the forum. What would be a cool platform? Trailing Arm, semi-vintage from Factory Works! I already had some of the components to get started, that made the choice pretty easy. Here's a couple of pics to capture your interest.

I have been working a bit so wait for more.

Now some detail pics!

I'm using a Savox 1251MG servo, which I bought direct with a 30 percent discount from Savox. Hint: If your not on there email list get on it! Avid servo mounts with my own custom servo mounting alum. washers do the trick here. RC10 Worlds re-re bell cranks with Avid bearings make the steering smooth. I made my own nose brace tubes and mounted them with some red Factory Works hardware. Avid B6 shock mounts are used as I'm going to be installing B6D big bore shocks. I got the shocks (new) from one of the eBay "chop shops" for less than 40 bucks. The front shock tower is from Factory Works. I had to remove about 0.030" from the inside, my nose brace tubes were rubbing. No fault on @GoMachV, my custom stuff required an adjustment to his specs. The front arm mounts were dyed with Rit Dyemore Graphite (3 hours in the pot).

I'm using the former wing tube location holes as one of the anchor points for the tube cage. I Drilled and tapped for a 4-40 x 1/8" grub screw on the cut down sides. Don't mind the long lengths on the bent tubes coming from the bulkhead forward. Lots of precise bending still to do there.

That gets us going for now. I just rcvd the rear big bore shocks this morning!

Love this build. Is this from a "plan" with dimensions, or is it all scratch? I have seen several them, but Im not familiar with how they are built.

It's all scratch built. I do plan, seriously though.

I got the front end sorted with AE B6D big bore front shocks, AVID top mounts, Lunsford Retro turnbuckles, DHawk alloy front arms and misc. hardware.
I've wasted some tubing trying to bend it :? not giving up quite yet!

I'm lacking some metric hardware (on order) for the rear shocks.

I got the metric hardware (3x16mm bhcs) this morning from eBay "Monster Bolts" and stood the buggy up on the big bore shocks. Now, to bend some tubes for the cage...

I got a bit further on the cage (minor tweaking to do). Eventually, the rear shock tower will be removed and the shocks attached to the cage.

A bit further along...made some cross braces and attached the forward cage "legs" to the chassis with a flathead cap screw (from the bottom) and another of the Factory Works cap head red washers on the tube. I have one more (I think?) cross brace to make. I have figured out, and ordered, a lipo battery hold down. It will be here in a few days from Amain. I'll have to make a few pieces to mount it, like stand offs. I have a plan for that, going to be cool. 8)

Really nice work Nomad. So what's the secret to achieving such tight radii on those bends without causing the tube to kink - brake line bender perhaps? Also, what's holding the cross braces in place? Will they eventually be welded?

Hey XLR- I'm using a brake line bender. I ended up buying 3 of them before I got one I liked  I've put a radius on the ends of the cross braces. They fit perfectly between. I have a buddy up the road that has a small commercial welding shop. I'll be bumming his equipment :D

The collar sets the depth of the cut/file, in this case, 2.3mm.

The profile is not exact in every case but good enough!

Been following along Nomad. I really like your plan.
If I asked nicely would you share the bender's identity, please?
I have a Cox Cucaracha slot car that needs a roll bar badly.

Hey radioactivity- No big secret as to which tubing bender I'm using. This one has the tightest tolerance, i.e., no play in the handle movement... https://www.ebay.com/itm/322244746338?hash=item4b07489c62

Here, I've sanded off the blue paint to better see the markings...

Bending my life away

I've come up with an idea for the rear, transmission guard tubes but not sure if it's going to stay, may re-do it, if so, need more tubing. :?
