I would say that your most limiting factor will be the handling of the car. A 10L is a very tough and durable pan car, but they severely lack adjustments for tuning, compared to modern pan cars. But with a well maintained 10L, a fresh diff and new tires, I'd say a 17.5 and a 1s would be a comfortable choice. Anything hotter than a 17.5 or greater than a 1s and I think you'd be pushing the limits of the car's handling capabilities.

That brushed motor that you have in there will also be pretty darn quick on 2s and should be a good starting point. :D

I'm pretty sure that the speed gem would be a 12x2 brushed motor, possibly with 20.5 awg wire? That motor on 2s, or even 6 cell nimh/nicad, should be much faster than a 17.5 on 1s. How fast it "should" go depends on a few things... if you're making long straight passes on a nice smooth surface with plenty of grip, that'll be nice. If you're on a low grip or small area where you'll be turning a lot, slowing it down a bit might be less frustrating to drive.
