Ballstuds now discontinued......

Post by jwscab »

Looks like 6271, 6270, 6273 are now discontinued.

Get em while you can at hobby shops for your restorations.......

A very basic question - I'm needing to replace all the ballstuds on my team car. What other options are there ?
Are there sets for newer RC10's that are a direct fit ?

No, not exactly. You can still get b4 style with the top broached hex. They install like the originals but have no hex shoulder. It's not the end of the world from a functional standpoint but if you are doing a replica or restorations that need the hex shoulder, it's that much harder now.

When those go away, all the new stuff is metric threads.

The end of an era... :?

For the record, I had purchased some (I think... my memory could fail me) ECX ballstuds, which were SAE too, a couple of years ago to not spend on the, let's face it, outrageously priced original RC10 parts even when they were still in stock.

Might be worth tracing the p/n down? If not ecx, it's one of the "cheaper US brands" I bought from, I'm sure, carried by one of the "Big Two" (tower and/or amain).

yeah, i was extremely disappointed when they got rid of the turnbuckle kit. reasonable priced will the stuff you needed to fit up an rc10 from scratch.

definitely post up this ecx stuff you are talking about.

some may argue the new ball cups are better, but once they discontinue the standard hardware, you will have to mix and match metric studs into your runners.....

Even more so now, this will make those old beat-up derelict RC10's posted for sale on ebay worth a second look.
Anyone care to guess which part(s) they'll discontinue next?? Here's a hint; they appear to be targeting metal parts. :|

yeah, i'm sure they are working to reduce costs, having 17 styles of ballstud is going to cost a bunch. they are likely made on a screw machine, possibly outsourced at this point. i do think the diff hubs will come back at some point, unless they aren't making any new diff hubs(these are screw machine too).

would be cool us dubro started selling just the ballstuds in multi-packs. it looks like those ecx parts are discontinued as well too.

Yeah, they're most definitely a screw machine part. "... possibly outsourced..." ? Do you know if AE or TT actually have part machining capabilities at any of their facilities? I had assumed that all of AE's parts were outsourced.
Anyway, I hope you're right about the diff hubs coming back.

no idea really. I figured thunder tiger probably has some machining capability on site vs outsource, but who knows.....
