RC10LS from spares bin

Here is some progress from my parts bin LS pan car. Some parts were missing and broken so I made my own. Others I ordered and slowly put it together.

Bumpers were used as templates for the new ones.

Test fitting parts. This one is destined to be a runner.

Haven't made a saddle pack in years so it's not perfect. I tore apart a 6 cell stick and assembled the old school pack.

I made my own front spacers from aluminum to get the ride height adjusted a bit higher.

Testing the vintage electronics before mounting.

Layout finalized.

I decided to hard wire the battery and motor to eliminate connector loss. Using alligator clips to charge this one.

Won't be long and this will be back on the road!

To keep the cells isolated from the chassis and create a tight grip once the battery straps are snugged down, I cut an old bike inner tube and tucked it under the cells.

Next, I am making the lexan antenna mount....

Nice work with the rubber isolation. I'm eager to see your lexan antenna mount. I've messed around with one for my 12L3 but really need a guide!

I forgot to show what it looked like before the build. Some parts I already had and some I aquired. I just had to rescue this neglected LS. I am still mix and matching various parts to get the car to where I like it to be. :P

Stealth antenna complete. It's attached to the servo using velcro and fits inside canopy area of GTP body nicely. I think I will swap out the front e-clip axles for the threaded ones. I also made an edge guard to the front bumper to protect the chassis from road damage. Now for the fun part...fitting the body and mounts. I got lazy on the body but I think you guys might like it.

Wow! I like that Kydex "chip guard" you've made for the front of the chassis. I'll be stealing your idea.

Glad you can use it! Doing this really saves the chassis from being road sanded down or de laminating the carbon fiber on impacts. I will also cut out a lexan sheet for the entire underside and run with that on the street. I may need to run the smaller bumper as this one is sticking out from the body and I really don't want to cut the body more than it needs. I'll add this guard to the small bumper too. :)

I am torn between installing a Reedy Ti 12x1 or a Checkpoint 12x2 motor. The Checkpoint required some work to get it working. The brushes were seized in the housing. The arm was rusted to the end bell bearing and took some effort to get it apart. After replacing the bearings and a good cleaning, it now is back to life. The Reedy just needed a light cleaning and is such a smooth runner. I can't decide. :|

The body is already painted so it's a bit more of a challenge to get it mounted. I am having some difficulty finding front AE black body mounts. I have another project lined up but I would like to get this one finished. ;)

If the Checkpoint motor is period'ish correct I would run that since it looks sexier unless the Reedy is far more superior........................

Agreed. I think the checkpoint came out around 2005-7? Not totally period correct but did install anyways as it does look unique. I dont see many around either. The Reedy is also nice but the only drawback is the missing label on the can. Right now I am looking to install the inline front axle and steering blocks. The inline axles are larger in diameter and have the threaded ends. Much better than using e-clips. Car is almost complete, just working on lightly restoring and polishing the vintage body. It will be for display only. It dates all the way back to 93 and was used for ads in RCCA back then. For running, I plan to use a protoform 905b.

Here is the actual Parma PSE Mazda body used for advertising in RCCA around 1993. After lightly polishing and some minor tweaks, it has managed to survive all these years later. I wish someone could re pop these bodies as they fit the 235mm pan cars nicely and look sharp. I don't have the heart to drill the mounting holes on this one so it will be for display only. I will paint up a Protoform 905b to use as a runner.

That's a gorgeous body, for sure.... would love one of those for my Daytona.... but, like you, I'll have to settle for the 905b.... and a McAllister Jaguar....

I wish I could find one of those Celica bodies.... they were standard fitment for the rally version of the Schumacher Nitro 4x4.... would complete my build nicely :D
