Trying to troubleshoot my RC10 rebuild setup

Hey folk. Almost done with my RC10 rebuild but struggling with the vintage electronics. Any tips to trouble shoot it. Problem is I don’t have any known gear to test with. I’ve got here.

7.2 V nimh battery - charged
Futaba FP-R112JE receiver
Futaba Magnum Sport transmitter
Duratrax DTX-4 ESC
Futaba FP S-148 servo
Unknown motor that came with it.

When I plug it all in I get a red light on the ESC, also battery indicator is green on the transmitter. When I flick the on switch of the ESC the motor kicks in for half a second. So at least I know there is power and the motor seems to work. I bought new crystals and put them in the trans and receiver.

Other than this I’m getting nothing! Any help appreciated.

Are they AM crystals? And the correct band?

And it's a 75 band radio and receiver?

The steering servo doesn't work either?

Not that it would make a difference, but I think you have the plugs in the wrong slots. Steering is channel 1, 2 is for the ESC.

Ah thanks. I couldn’t remember which way round it was. Neither do anything though!

Well........ My guesses:

1) New crystals are bad
2) Receiver is bad
3) Radio is bad

It's really hard to diagnose without other ones to try. If you are interested, I'm sure I have a radio and receiver I could send you. And I will make sure it all works beforehand.

The crystals being aftermarket are the first thing I would suspect. But yeah it’s really hard to test without other equipment to swap in.

Thanks man. Maybe it is the crystals. I couldn’t find many options to buy them though. I’ll see if I can find anyone local here that can help me. I might just shell out and get some modern electronics for this though.

You could try swapping the ch1 and ch2 on the receiver temporarily, then check the throttle control on the transmitter is controllin* the steering servo to establish its not a radio gear problem...presumecsteering servo is ok?
Assuming this works, swap them back then try the ESC pot setting, wind the pots all the way through min and max with the throttle on full on the transmitter and see if this works. Good luck.

I bought several sets of similar looking crystals off eBay, NIP labeled from "Performance Devices". I'm not sure what they are designed/intended for, but I couldn't get a single set to work in any of my 75 MHz systems. I'd bet those crystals are the culprit.
