I have a bunch of Reedy Mr R’s which came in a bulk purchase along with several incomplete cars. Three of them are used, and one is NIP.
I then came across a Trinity armature in an old parts bin at a shop.
I have no experience with electric motors other than basic general knowledge. Turns and winds etc is new to me.
I have been reading-up on motor maintenance and restoration and trying to get up to speed.

My question is if this Trinity armature could be used as a spare to restore one of the Reedy motors? I haven’t opened the packaging, but it looks identical in dimensions to the Reedy.

I understand the performance would change since the Reedys are 16 turn triples, whereas the Trinity is a 13 turn triple.

Is there some characteristic I’m not aware of which would impede swapping it in and having it work.

Yes you can swap armatures around. Just make sure you shim leaving a correct amount of end float, that's really the same on brushless motors also.

Back in the say all the western motor manufacturers bought their "blank" motors from several Japanese companies: Yokomo, Epic, Kyosho, Sagami, etc...

Then they wound the motors to their own taste, and did various other things to them.

This is mostly still true today, except the motors now all come from China and I doubt anyone is doing much to them anymore except re-sell them.

Thanks. Good news then. I had to google end float. Something new to learn every day. It seems to be used interchangeably with “end play”. I found reference values of 0.25 to 0.5mm (0.010-0.020").
Thanks again. I’ll be checking my used Reedys, and keeping this in mind when rebuilding.

You should try to find a comm lathe, before they all get lost in a dumpster.
