Tamiya Blackfoot Re-Worked

Here’s the Tamiya Blackfoot that I got for Christmas from my wife and kids :D and as much as I’ve always liked the box art version of it, I felt like there’s always room for improvement...

I never liked the roll/light bar, I always felt like the light buckets were too big for the truck, and the fact that they would flap down, make me like them even less.

I had a Clodbuster light bar laying around and wanted to see if the holes lined up, and they did, so I drilled up the remaining holes and voila, new light bar.

As for the light buckets, I mounted some working light buckets onto a metal brace, added and some MCI racing KC decals and it looks like it’s meant to be there, well, in my opinion :D

Here are the wheels I’ll be running on this:
Jconcepts 2.2 Midwest wheels, with the rear lip cut off the fit the narrower Blackfoot tires.

That looks really good. Really like the white wheels. I’ve been trying to get a hold of a re re for the last month but they are on back order or out of stock everywhere. Hopefully will be easier after 01/08, when Tamiya finishes inventory.

Like the different lights too.

I’ve been watching your build for a while, very nice. I have a box of shapeways parts and a brand new re re Blackfoot sitting on my workbench just waiting for me to get to it.

Really like how yours is coming along, going to keep watching.

Nice Blackfoot for sure!

May I know which adaptors you are using to mount the 12mm jconcept wheels to the front axle and uses bearings?

There are a couple of options, but for me, these work the best.

Here’s the link on eBay of the ones I’m using:

With a little trimming you can use df03 knuckles and cut the drive cups of some axles to get hex fit front wheels on these.

hi nice build wish mine looked as good as that but just spent all my pocket money on rebuilding a tamiya bigwig i got for christmas . I have a vintage tamiya blackfoot and ii have put a chinese brushless motor and esc in it dont know if i made the right choice as it seems to be ratteling itself to pieces i have done the trick to flip the steering links to the underside of the servo saver and it has improved its steering by a mile the one issue i do have though is those thin metal arm things that connect to the front of the chassis (you know the ones that come out of the front of the front arms ) one of those mounts had broken and i lost the screw what should i do to fix that and how can i make the car to handle alot better as it is alot faster than i think a tamiya blackfoot was intended to be :D

This is how I setup the steering on all of mine.

Center mount servo, Traxxas servo saver, and spacers on the uprights (or Am-Pro/ CRP uprights).

New parts are available. Due to the re-release, lots of new take-off parts are on Ebay.
