Shodog’s Graphite Buggy

With all the quarantine talk I elected to R/C and chill this weekend on a few projects. One of them was this buggy I bought and initially built a few years ago.

This buggy was worth all the ordeal it took to get. One day while surfing Craigslist I come across a clapped out RC10 with Tecnacraft wheels. Not wanting to miss out on a set of Tec’s while knowing it’s a 200+ mile round trip on my motorcycle, I schedule a time to meet with the seller to buy the buggy that evening. After work I ride a treacherous 100 miles through traffic to the guys house. The seller pulls out the RC10 with the tec’s and I’m like swoop. Then he says I’ve got a graphite buggy you might be interested in. He brings out this brand new built un-run Graphite buggy with the plastic all dyed black that I couldn’t pass up. A quick trip to the ATM for more cash and this buggy came home with me also.

I had disassembled the buggy in anticipation of using just the chassis on another project but ended up going a different direction and not using it. So I built it back up using a compliment of Dhawk aluminum parts, Tecnacraft wheels and a custom painted Andy’s Renegade body that took forever to get.

It looked beautiful with all that anodized goodness but I wasn’t satisfied. All that aluminum just weighed down a sleek chassis.

With my sprint car going to a full aluminum build, I had a set of mixed AE and aftermarket parts that was better suited for this chassis. A Team pit stop chain drive transmission with a hyperdrive pinion and spur gear. Andy’s steering blocks, caster blocks, rear hubs and suspension arms. Dhawk carbon shock towers and transmission brace. Tecnacraft wheels, aerofoil wing, aluminum screws and turnbuckles. CRP aluminum adjustable shock collars. Custom painted Andy’s Renegade body.

Andy still sells the painted Renegade though his eBay account.
