Hey, can anybody help me with a maintenance "what needs greased and oiled and when" question? I have two RC10T4 trucks that I have not run in probably five years, and they are probably both about 5 to 10 years old and I bought them used on eBay, so I was wondering before I run these what should I lubricate, if anything?

I’m running a Novak brushless system on both and I am just now upgrading to 2S LiPo batteries, so I expect things to be moving and rotating faster than ever.

I have a few misc tubes laying around that came with the cars:

• one is MIP thread lock

• I have two clear tubes of stealth diff lube

• I have MIP lube

• and also a clear container (now yellowish really) of superlube PN 21000 (Grease with syncolon PTFE)

• and I have a pack of silicone adhesive/sealant (made by the antenna specialist company)

Like I said, I bought these used and all the stuff mentioned came with it, so I’m not sure which of these are just for the initial build and which of these or which others that I need for ongoing maintenance?

They don't require a lot of maintenance for just bashing around. The three most critical things to oil/grease would be.

1.) Clean and oil bearing periodically

2.) Rebuild differential when it starts to get crunchy. (Stealth lube on diff balls, black grease on thrust bearing) Also make sure the slipper slips before the diff.

3.) Clean and refill shock oil when they get too squishy (air)


4.) Optional, a little black grease in the CVD/CVA joint and outdrive pins helps prolong their life but attracts more dirt thus requiring more maintenance.


Just for regular maintenance I would keep an eye on the set screw/cross pin in the rear CVD/CVA as they are notorious for coming loose/ falling out. MIP locktite is for this set screw. Heatshrink is a common trick to keep the pin from falling out if it comes loose.

Make sure your rear wheel nuts stay tight, if they keep loosening replace the nut, many rear wheels have been ruined from loose wheel nuts.

Periodically unscrew the shocks from the suspension arms and disconnect the steering servo and check that everything moves freely without any binding.
