Hey all, I'm new to this site. Came across these forums from a google search. Really enjoying reading about the old vintage RC cars.....
I raced BMX, religiously, from age 8-14. After the 2nd of 3 moto's, there was always an intermission and some kids started bringing out their Rough Riders, Grasshoppers, etc.. out on the BMX track..... so fun, those things would fly! Pretty soon more kids started getting them. My first car was a hornet, which was great, I was 9... Then I remember someone showing up with an RC10 ... so bad ass ... so I saved my money and bought this Yokomo 843B to hang with the RC10. Used to go to watch the RC races at the B&I track in Tacoma, WA.
This is my old yokomo 834b.... lots of fun had with this car. I was 10 years old, and liked to do things myself ... thus the bird turd looking soldering jobs, black tape, painted wheels, and paint job. I think I pulled the chain / 4wd out in the end because I had a crap battery that would run out fast, and I thought this helped it go longer. I think the only mod was a slipper clutch. Anyhow, the double sided tape has worn off, thus the servo's and speed controller are loose or falling off.
I don't recall this car coming with a motor, unless it came with the AE Associated Off-Road Stock motor in the pics(?), which I must have bought, because I don't think it came with one. Did they make a model that didn't come with the 05R motor I see them with now?

It's been really fun reading through many of the posts about these old cars. My thought is maybe break mine down, clean it up slightly, and put it back how it is now, but with the drive train intact (it probably still works fine?). Set it on the shelf in the garage.
What would y'all do?

Wow what a survivor  :D ! its even got the Dunlop tires ! those tires are very rare now so be careful of them when you restore it , i have 3 834b's one very original that rarely gets run , a modernised one and one i 3d printed that gets abused .
Please feel free to post pictures of the restoration and welcome to the gang :D

Survivor!

My view would be to restore and run it.

It could potentially be a lengthy and costly job but given you've a history to go with it, I'd think it would bring back good memories running it again!

However, If you shelf it, leave it as is.
