As the title says I'm interested in what people think of Vintage tires ? I just received some NIP old stock SG Coyote tires and I didn't expect much but they feel perfect , like I could use them as normal , so do other people use old rubber or is it just for the shelf ?

These tag tires were the hot ticket back in the day! I honestly don't think they would able to do anything against a modern, traditional dirt tire such as a bowtie m4 though

I guess a lot depends upon track surface. My gnarly un-groomed backyard track is very inconsistent with a wide range of surface conditions; hard pack, loose dirt and even a sandy section (and tree roots everywhere

). I've tried early RC10 tires, Losi X and a variety of vintage Schumacher tires (blocks, pins, minis, mediums, long pins, etc) but I always go back to Bowties. I think they are the best all-around dirt tire.
Anyway, just send me your Coyote tires Dadio and I'll give them a try.

So no worries about them just falling apart or thought that they should be saved for a display car? I'm not asking just about the tires I just got but in general, some of them are rare and expensive.

I certainly think they should be kept for a display car, if only because they would not be rewarding on the track... And indeed let's not even talk about value.
Send them to me instead!!!

I don't race these days so outright performance is not an issue and I do like to run my cars but I do also really like the old school big chunky spiked tires aesthetically, unfortunately there are very limited choices in modern rubber with vintage style or at least only in some wheel sizes....

They do look awesome on a display piece, definitely, if you feel the urge to run your car with the vintage tires, do so on low grass or maybe sand, where you know it’s not too abrasive to the tire and it’ll clean up easily.... I’ve used the Traxxas 2.15 spiked tires, which look vintage, and they perform well for bashing and don’t wear as quickly as the modern stuff..
