With my last small parts order I got some 91633 "FT 12mm piston (V2) blank TP" cheap on Ebay. Like $6 for 4 12mm pistons.
The price of 9608 spacers, when you find them, is $20 to $25 per pair if not more.
The thought was @ $3.00 per pair I might drill the center to 3/16 inch. Glueing to a wood board with hot melt held them so they could be drilled.
Started with smaller bits and working up 3/16" helps keep the hole relatively concentric.
Not sure of ultimate durability but they are spacers not really high-thrust bearing parts.
They are 0.097" thick, the 9608 is 0.079" thick. About 0.018" thicker. So in my case no shims were used.

I didn’t realize the wheel backing/spacer plates were getting tough to find. Ours are a little thinner at .0645”. I’ll have to throw some up on eBay.

Just a question. All of my cars are 1/4" axle, so I've never had any dealings with 3/16" axle cars.

I understand that the spacers are a cleaner alternative, but would there be any problem with using a shim stack. I only ask because 3/16" and 5mm shims are cheap and readily available.

Other than a cleaner installation, do the spacers offer any other advantages?

They support the back face of the wheel on a 3/16 wheel to provide a flat surface to seat against. On a 1/4” setup there is a taper that the wheel engages.

are these for the B4 and newer cars like the factory blue spacers.......................
