RC10GT Pull Start Spring

Came across this truck for $40.00 as is and couldn't pass it up. The guy I got it from said it had been sitting for a few years in his garage but it was a strong runner. It is pretty dirty and will need a full break down and rebuild. My son got the piston free and found the pull start spring was broken. Couple questions...

1. Any tips on getting an old motor cleaned and running again?
2. Who made the motor for Associated?
3. Any one know where to find the manual for the motor. I already pulled the GT manual off AE's site.
3. Any one know where I can find a reasonable price pull start spring for the Associated .15? I am assuming another brand or a generic one will work but don't want to waste a bunch of money trying to piece something together. I found some .21 springs but people want $30.00 and up plus shipping. There are some complete generic pulls starts on eBay for around 12.00 that might work but I am not sure of.

Got a pic of the spring and bobbin? Quite often the spring can be re-bent to work.

Pull starts are pretty specific so I doubt a generic one will fit.

Ever want to hit yourself in the head and say "duh." I think there is enough spring left to try and bend it into shape. To bad it didn't snap on the other end. My thought on a generic pull start was to buy the pull start for the spring, salvage the cord and toss the rest as I wouldn't have a motor to use it with. What are your thoughts on those bends in the stock spring?

Thanks for the link. I looked for a bit and could not find it.

You can replace the pull start with a Sullivan Tiger Drive. I have one on one of my GT's and it works great. S702 Drive and a S698 Shim Kit as needed.

Thanks for the info. I think I will order those parts to have around even if I do get the spring bet into shape. Unfortunately my spare time will be short and I will work on the car but by bit. Kids Hockey, Football, and other stuff is in full swing.
