I was wondering what brushed stock motors people ran back in the day. I didn’t know if there was a specific trinity or some other brand motor that ruled the day.

You said "Stock"
So many good ones and it may have depended on where you lived or what your Hobby Shop stocked (at least in the 80's and early 90's).
XX4 came out after my era  so somebody else will have to chime in.

A Trinity D3/3.5/4 would all be fairly period correct I think.

I guess I might have asked my question poorly. What would be a good vintage stock brushed motor to put into an XX4? I stumbled across an old trinity 97-98 racers guide and saw a bunch of stock motors and a reference to a D2 modified motor. I have seen "P2K"s, "midnights", "return of the monster" available but I didn't know if anyone had a late 90s motor recommendation for an XX4

The Monster Stock Jr 3 stock motor would be good.

I’m open to all thoughts. I have a jrx2 that I grew up with and if I ever got an insane that’s where it would go. But stuff from the mid to late 90s I am open to ideas.

A Trinity X-Star was advertised in 98' But I feel like a Midnight or Green Machine series is also within the time range of the XX4. As far as modifieds, there's Speed Gems, and of course the D2 or D3. The trick is finding one in good shape, I've been on the lookout for a nice D2 for years.
