:D

This my new project based on a Tamiya Blackfoot from 1986
Found this one in a french forum
Good shape and a nice price

Seeing it without its bodywork give me the idea to built a "Truck Racer" as we could have done at the end of the 80's.
The blackfoot was almost the 1st Truck that launched this racing format during fews years, before the arrival of JRXT, RC10T, Eagle, etc...

This photo posted on an FB group was a trigger:

To improve it, there were aftermarket parts from CRP, JG and Thorp. Most are epoxy and kydex.
Today, they are rare and expensive

But with a little trick, and a sheet of epoxy (4mm) here I am making these parts.
"Rendez-vous" with my computer to draw and send the plan to a CNC

Testing the assemblies before the big cleaning.

Needed a body mount for the rear cause the original one is fragile and not suitable for my planned Lexan body.

I am studying a motor support like CRP proposed at the time

The body comes from TBG it is a repro of the Traxxas SledgeHammer but cut differently

I'm close to the end and add some vintage parts:
- RPM ball cup
- Kimbrough Servo Saver
- Keep in place the MSC and original dampers
- Hitec Challenger 260 for the radio

I chose the colors of Roger Mears

This truck is pretty fine on the track. If you keep it mind the 1986 technologies.
The "CRP mount" improve a lot the speed and the rear body mount fix problem of gearbox plate spreading. There is no "crack noise" in the differential thanks to this option part.
One word on the suspension, event if a spring doing the job, the front do it well. But the rear is to strong and need a softer one.

The Mecanic Speed Controller is not so progressive.
Only 3 speeds but a lot of fun and a good way to back in time when ESC were missing or to expensive

Refurbishing this Tamiya Kit was for me a way to revive the memories of my old Monster Beetle jumping in the park next to my home when I was .......12

Very cool build. Dig the body it looks awesome. I have a vintage Blackfoot the previous owner hopped up with rc10 shocks, the motor plate you used as a template, a Thorp diff and Losi super stock Revolution motor and it handles well and rips!!

Great resto-modding skills...nice re-engineering of the original design to improve it. 8)

Hmmm... I see the beginnings of a pulling hitch here rather than a body mount.
