First Ever Losi And Hoping For Some Guidance XX ?

Falling down a rabbit hole on fleabay one evening while looking for a Hydra Drive for my RC10 Worlds project runner I stumbled across the wreckage you see below which I was hoping someone might be able to help me ID. Of all the years in the hobby this is my first ever Losi and I have no idea what I am looking at (standard XX? XXCR? Kinwald?)
Now that I have it in front of me I am wondering about the difficulty (parts availability, bodies?) of a rebuild, would it be worth it in your opinions (not so much from a financial standpoint but I don’t want it sitting there for 2 years while I source parts either lol)
Thoughts?

Welcome. You may find the XX series to be very addictive.
From the pictures it's difficult to say for certain, but it looks like you have a XX CR. I see a top Graphite plate, but can't see the correct angles on anything more.
There are plenty of XX parts available. Like anything vintage now, some pieces are getting high in price. As to whether or not you should start a rebuild really just depends on what you want to do with it. If you are looking to build a pristine shelfer, you have a long road ahead. If you are looking to build a runner, it looks like a solid platform.
Have fun and keep up updated.

Looks like an earlier release of the XX, maybe when they first added the Hydra-Drive. Those types of Turnbuckles were from the earlier versions. The CR's had the really crappy versions of steel that would strip. The CR also had a center battery hold down and molded steering.
Should clean up nice. XXTs are easier to come across and they share many parts. We run XXTs at the track, and we all love them.

Team Blue Groove makes a reproduction body

Sabula Tech has lots of Losi stuff
https://store.sabulatech.com, and of course there's eBay.
Honestly I think the XX platform is pretty tough. I ran the original control arms on my first XXT for years without a break. Just keep up on maintenance, these things handle great for being 20+ years old.

I agree on the toughness factor. Growing up I would jump my XXT into infinity....on the street and grass. All I ever broke were ball cups, front a-arms, and one time I cracked the chassis. Since we started running XXTs again, we have only broken a few random parts, which probably had mystery fatigued from the previous 20 years of running! After replacing the first part or three that broke(usually suspension links) they have been running for months without issue(track only).

Stop it, you are making me excited to rebuild this one lol
Well started with a complete tear down, general soap and water clean, new aftermarket towers and b6 wing mount, a lot still left to do but it is amazing what a new screw set does for these older cars.
Definitely need to replace the super un-factory drilled out top plate thingy, grab some springs, will definitely grab that body (thank you for the suggestion) and going to go with the rims that have those plastic disk inserts as I think they look better than the 5 star yellow ones from the CR in IMHO.

Nice rebuild! Yeah, it's amazing what a thorough cleaning and some new hardware can do.
If you want to restore the look of the tie rods, you can chuck them in your hand drill and polish them up. Then use Birchwood Gun Blue to re-black them. Or upgrade to some titanium units for ultimate strength, weight shedding, and baller status!

Baller status

love it. Well if thing turns out as good as I hope, I may have to start hopping it up.
Speaking of baller, although the chassis didn’t sayyy Graphite...at least it looks Graphite lol
